I purchased the PA 600 from Frank at audio works today ...
First, I want to thank Frank for the great service he provided, and he is ABSOLUTELY the place to go ... clap

Second - SPARKY ... by the time I saw your PM I was on my way home ... it would have been great to meet you there frown

Third - I am STILL having a problem posting pics in a post ... I keep getting the message that the file is over 6MB when it is only 148KB !!! mad

As for the PA600 ...let me first say that I LIKE it, and I think I am going to really like it ... grin

BUT ...
1) I have to realize that it is NOT a TOTL kb - even though my kn6000 is 12 years old, it is STILL TOTL - and a lot of the operating ease due to dedicated buttons is not there in the PA 600 ...
2) I have a LOT to learn about the OS ... this is definitely not a kb I could take out of the box and play a gig ...
So the Tutorial CD is going into the PC and I will see you all in about a MONTH ... computer grin

BTW ... the styles and sounds that I have heard are quite impressive ... rocker

More to come ...

Congratulations on your new acquisition, Tony, the PA-600 is an impressive keyboard, even if it isn't a TOTL instrument.

As with any arranger instrument, it will take time to get it to suit your style of playing, but, it also has some great features like being able to set itself up for each style you select, similar to Yamaha's One Touch Setting, and, of course, these presets can be used as the basis for your personal setups.

The Technics had you a bit spoiled, as it had a terrific User Interface, but you can bet the Korg will show it it's heels regarding cool new features that weren't even possible back when your Technics was introduced.

Happy playing,

Ian

Way to go man, keep us updated on your new keyboard.
Have fun...that's what it's all about.

BTW...to display photos directly in a thread, you need to link them from a storage site.

After a QUICK run through the vids and fooling around a little bit on my own - such as going through the "Song Play' feature -, I have to say, this is a powerful little board ... it's going to take some time and effort - and a lot of help from my friends wink - but in the end, I think it's going to sound great ...
There are some nice changes in the variations of the rhythms ... smile

----------------------------------------------------------------

Tony,

Instead of 'File Manager', Switch To Full Reply Screen and use the 'Photo Button' (As shown below fig.1 )

fig.1

You will then be asked for the image url

Paste the image url in the script prompt to embed the photo in a thread (as shown in fig.2)
fig. 2

That's it...easy peasy lemon squeezy smile

Tony,
Have not heard anything for awhile on your new PA600

No Update? Any News? How's It Going? Like It? Is It A Keeper? Better than the 12 year old Technics? Sold it To Donny? Took It Back?

Kidding...hope it's fun...that's #1 on the list

smile

Larry ... (and all others who read this) ... wink ...
Unfortunately, I have not had a LOT of time to spend with the board, and the time spent so far was just 'exploring' ... but the biggest thing I have learned thus far is that this is absolutely NOT an 'out of the box and play' board ...

Donny has been helping me, but I am having some difficulty with the OS as it is SO different from the technics -
The technics has a LOT of dedicated buttons that make navigation, changes on the fly, etc. VERY easy ...
Another REALITY is that I am SO used to the technics after 12 years ...

I like a lot of the styles I've tried ...

At this point I am somewhat disappointed with some of the sounds, as they seem 'thin' compared to the technics ... but what I have to realize is that the technics is a TOTL kb which sold for around $3000 12 years ago and the KORG is 1/3 that price ...
I also am hopeful that with some guidance on 'sound editing' the sounds will be just fine ...

For the reasons I bought the KORG - budget/smaller footprint/lighter/second board - I am pretty sure it is a keeper ... but there is an adjustment when going from a TOTL kb - even one 12 years old - to a MOTL kb ...

And I'm certain that the 'fun' will come in time ... grin

Thanks for asking ...

Tony as you said your just exploring with the right EQ and adjustments that MOTL Korg will blow you away. This is all new territory for you...12 years doesn't go away over night you have to do your homework first.

I have to admit, even though I have a Korg product (an older Triton), and also can program the heck out of my K2500S, as a Roland user through the years I have to admit, the Korg 'system' is as far away from Roland as you can possibly get!

The file architecture is arcane and convoluted, the editing pages are laid out basically polar opposites to Roland, and make many tasks needlessly complicated, it is a piece of cake to overwrite Factory sounds and styles (not usually what you are trying to do!) and, all in all, if Roland do it one way, Korg seem to be determined to do their damnedest to do it differently!

Chalk and cheese...

I think perhaps there is room, especially with Korg having a touchscreen for most things, that a 'Simple' and an 'Expert' mode might be selected, with ONLY the major and most frequently used storage and editing functions displayed. I have a feeling this will ease many into the 'system', rather than daunting you with TMI the first time you try to do anything...
