I'm considering a new seat, one with a backrest. Of course it has to be reasonably light and definitely portable. I'm not impressed with the Quik-Lok seat but I have seen a few seats that seem to be identical but with different names. Do you know anything about the ProX T-DJ chair or the On-Stage DT8500. They look similar enoough and there are even more product names that I can't remember.

I've checked drum thrones too. Does anyone use one of those?

Very comfortable and great construction. I use one and love it. American construction that really shows. Can't be beat.

Thing is, some of these drum thrones weigh more than the arrangers you tote around! There seems to be such a point of pride in using the lightest gear you can, then you get a throne that weighs as much or more? Yikes!

I have used the On Stage you linked for several years. It is comfortable and not too heavy. If there was any drawback, it would be that it is a bit ungainly to pack.

I like to sit very low.....I have given up carrying any seats at all anymore.... and weaned myself off them.....I now use what ever they have at the gig to sit on.....I have a pillow in my car just in-case to buff up a thin chair....less to carry that way.

I have been using the one shown in top photo no back rest, but it's rock solid and is easy to transport. Cass plenty of variety in all the links posted, should be no problem you finding something because as the saying reads " there's an arse for every seat or is it a seat for every arse?" smile

For what its worth I wouldn't get the one you posted a link to. Tried it in a music store and the salesman told me everyone hated it. Very uncomfortable and hard to adjust, especially since you look like a big guy like me. I've been using fold up benches for years but I'm switching to something like the Tama Don suggested. Pain to move but you gotta be comfortable.

Good luck

Thanks Everyone. All the suggestions are good, but I'm still "stooped", so to say. Years ago when I played my Farfisa I had a folding kitchen stool with a backrest. Maybe I'll try that again - very portable; just fold it up. And actually, Donny's idea may not be far off the mark; one less piece to pack...
