His hit, "San Francisco" means a lot to me. (John Phillips wrote it.) Takes me back to wonderful teenage years. He had a super voice.

We never know, enjoy life everyone!

Second to "I Left My Heart . . . ",
" If You're Going To SF" is probably my most tourist requested song.
The 'spirit' of this song lives on here in SF 45 years later.
Rest in Peace Scott McKenzie.

Thanks, Bill:

May he rest in peace. It is a really good song and will keep him in our memories.

I really appreciate your listing the songwriter... John Phillips. So often, the creator of the song is relegated to obscurity while the artist seemingly takes "ownership." Writing a hit song... or any other song for that matter, is practically impossible today. There are too many songwriters and too few opportunities to get your work in front of the people who control things. Networking is probably more important than talent in the scope of things related to songwriting.

Thanks again,

Dave Rice

And here is a version of him much older. He sure could sing. Golly, this song gets to me right now. I am so fortunate to have grown up in the 60s.

Check out this page where Scott describes the price of fame -- armies of women throwing themselves at him.

http://www.scottmckenzie.info/fame.html

And this page, where he said he didn't like the sound of his own voice. (I have heard Rodney Crowell say this very thing... that he finally came to peace about it after 20 years or so of hating his voice.)
