Is there anyone here able to figure out why the scroll bar on my touch pad has quit working?
It's on the right side of the pad and has an up and down arrow there. It worked fine up to a few months back. I'm sure I've turned it off somehow and I don't have a clue of what to do.
Thanks
Boo

you should have a small icon with mouse settings in the system tray bar (lower right) ?

Dan,
There is no mouse icon in the tray. Can you help? Ed helped with with some things a few weeks back. I'd like to not bother him again this soon if possible.

I figured someone else might help. I'm assuming that maybe this might be an easy fix. Am I assuming too much?
Thanks,
Boo

Assuming your using Windows, go into the control panel, choose mouse & pointer options and you should find the touch-pad console in there.

Hope this helps

Are you sure the window didn't just expand past the visible area of the screen thus obscuring the scrollbar? Try doing a Maximize Window.

I'll check that out Bill thanks.
Al, it's not the scroll bar on the screen, if that's what you mean, it the little scroll thingy on the touch pad.

Dan, Bill, Al,

I tried clicking on the word “Mouse” in the “Control Panel” and this message jumped up in a box named “Synaptics Pointing Device.”

The message reads:

“Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver.”

“If you have installed another PS/2 Pointing Device Driver please uninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again,”
Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics driver now.”

Does this have anything to do with the touch pad scroller?

Get me away from nine-ball, the sax and bricklaying and I’m easily confused.
Thanks again for ay help,
Boo

I'd try reinstalling the driver just because that's what I usually do...

The scroll settings option lurks inside the touchpad control panel, if you are just seeing a normal mouse control panel then have a look at the pointing device hardware tab, the synaptics pad should be available. There may be a settings button, or right click on the device?

If the touchpad driver is installed, you can get it to show an icon permanently in the notification area. The icon is a rectangular sort of thing and is definately not mouse shaped. If you get the icon you can right click on that to get to the settings.

Yes it does, if you haven’t already; try restarting your computer to see if it will re-install it.

If restarting fails, uninstall the driver then re-start again and let Windows search for a suitable driver online.

NOTE: Make sure you have no other pointing device (Mouse etc) plugged in when re-starting.

Hope this helps

Also "unable to connect" may mean you've turned the pad off, on most laptops there is a key combination that enables or disables the touchpad, on Acers it is Fn+F7.

John is probably true.
If not, the drivers can be downloaded here
