I am so glad my wife talked me out of getting one of these mentioning the problem of being proprietary (sp?). If it did pdfs, I'd probably still be interested. Now it looks like it will end up like the Victrola.

I am wondering what all the current users are planning on doing with theirs? Will it make sense to continue adding music to something that will be after a time unserviceable and can't be upgraded?

I still use three MPP's. Tried the iPad and it was too small for my old eyes. The MPP's still dependably do the job I need done.

I don't really know anything about this aspect, but I suppose you convert your pdf, jpeg etc files on your PC to Music PadPro format? I'm wondering to what os of Windows does this program work? Does it work on Windows 7? Anyway, another factor for considering, I suppose. I've got all kinds of great programs that no longer work on Windows 7. I have taken a new approach to this aspect.

I see it's supported up to XP. It appears XP will be supported until 4/8/2014.

Mine works fine on Win7. I never had to do anything to install the MPP Manager.

I am the worst in thinking newer is better. In my case, the MPP has served me well,and still has advantages,for me, over MusicReader,for example. My scanner can convert to PDF, so have no problem in converting to Freehand format. Bob is a master at goodlooking scores, but mine are adequate with PDF.

The only thing I don't like about the MPP is that it is a bit heavy and lunky but quality isn't always light. If I use MusicReader, I have to bring the laptop anyway so it's a tradoff.

In five years or so, my MPP has never failed me, except for the page turner pedal. I still can't find one to work.

My MPP has been relegated to back-up duty since I went to an 8” then 7” VGA monitor about 20 months ago. I purchased the MPP early on and paid $1200. I just feel secure knowing that it’s in the van …

An alternative to MPP:

My "Music Book Viewer" software program at http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/pdfviewer/index.htm has been updated.

User selected functions (e.g. page turning) can now be controlled by a foot switch.

Instructions for foot switch connecting and setup are found in the program help file.

You have the computer and the screen. You can get the software for free. All you have to buy is probably the foot switch (app. 20 $).

And this is a non-proprietary solution!
