I have to agree with Scott on this one, James...the piano was mixed just fine ( I also used a good set of headphones), in my opinion, and not crowding the vocal at all.

Also, although the piano part was simplistic and a bit repetitive, I believe that was intentional, and very effective...it supported instead of detracting from the vocals, which by the way, were exceptional.

Sometimes less is more...it was in this case.

Ian

Just to be sure I didn't miss something while listening the first time on my wife's laptop, I listened to the OP again using my desktop, which is connected to my Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround-sound system, and then a third listen with my headphones. While the piano sounded softer in nature, the vocals were still overshadowed. I would love to have the original, unmixed version to remix here in the studio.

Thanks again for posting,

Gary cool

James, liked everything, including the mix. Individual tastes, I guess.

And Scott-thanks for the clips of Karen and Ella, who used to cook for me and teach me lead lines in LA in the early 60's.

Of course, Karen was fabulous.

Ah, memories,

Russ

Old proverb ... "There is no accounting for taste ... or personal preference" ...

That said, I also thought the background mix was a little too heavy - at the very beginning and at the 3 minute point especially ...
but what a BEAUTIFUL voice and arrangement ...

I would LOVE to hear more ...

Hi James:

Christine's vocal certainly reminds me of Karen Carpenter... and that is just about the highest compliment I can pay a singer. Nice production and an exceptional version of that song.

I tend to agree with Gary... insofar that the vocal should stand out just a little more... but unless you had this recorded in a professional studio... it works quite well for my ears.

Thanks ever so much for sharing it with us. I really enjoyed it.
You two make quite a team.

Dave Rice

P.S. - Thanks to our friend... Scott Yee... for sharing Karen's video complete with Ella Fitzgerald in that wonderful medley.

James,

Thanks for sharing this fine recording. Karen Carpenter for sure. The piano at the beginning may have a tad strong, however it quickly mellowed and blended well soon after and through to the end.

Nice job, and hope to hear more.
