anyone know if the SD2 can be connected to an X1 keyboard and if so are the sounds much different? What i'm asking is will my midifiles sound much better if I connect an SD2 to my X1 or my X4 module. If it does work then what do I need apart from a midi lead to connect it . and does the X1 recognize the voices from the SD2 automatically or whats involved in setting it up

Rusty

I have a X8 MIDI linked to SD4 mini Module, recognize the voices from the SD4 automatically.

But... I have too big problems:
- The low Polyphony of the SD4.
- SD4 not regonize the groove bank from the same way to X8 transmits. (or I dont now make it)

If you want, send me a midifile, and record a mp3 with your X.
I will then record for you a mp3 with the SD2 and one with the SD4, because I have both.

And we will vote, witch one is better...

I think, SD4 have more 1 GM bank Sound, not better sounds, just more sounds.

I'm accordionist, and the SD4 is simply ready and more easy to work with an Accordion, or Master Keyboard. You can use a midi sequencer & a master keyboard at the same time. (but... atention the polifony, 64notes...)

In SD4 I can make "Programs" and save it.
I can asign a diferent Preset/Program for 3 midi channel's.

The SD2 and SD4 own exactly the same sound bank. There is not more in SD4.

If you just want to use it as a GM sound module, there is nothing more.

If you want to play as a solo performer, only your instrument and the SD4, it will give you more options, with some buttons to change sounds, and for accordion players, to store some SETUP, and layers some sounds together

Ok, the "Special Bank" in SD4, is the same of "Special Orchestral Presets" in SD2, right?

You are right, you can only access this special bank of 64 sounds (+ your own programs) on the port called MASTER. Those sounds are simply 3 sounds layers from the other banks A B C.

With a software like vArranger, you can get the same result and a lot more (arranger module...) on a SD2 or a SD4.

I will add later this feature, to do it directly on vArranger.
For now, you can create your Yamaha styles with cubase and some markers.
