I wonder if they would have to be reloaded with each power-off power on event????

Yes, but it's an easy task. they keyboard will remember them. Just use the left arrow to choose ctrl map, turn the main knob to select the one you want (name them to keep them organised) and then push in the knob (for enter) and thats it selected.

Also remember you have more than 8 buttons. All the transport buttons are useless as transport controls so you could assign voices there too, and the Bank buttons B1-B4 too.

I think that's your 20 favourite sounds on one control map!

when I use any control map other than 0 the weird sound problem goes away

That will be because control map 0 is the Sonar map, and it still sends cutoff and resonance data, attack, decay and release values, portomento time changes etc. The BK7 responds to these.

You have probably inadvertanty moved a knob or fader which has caused an issue with the sound. Perhaps set in the control map for your fader controls and knob controls to have a virtual click in the centre. That way it is easy to find the default position again, and get the sound back to normal.

You should not have to reload the maps on power off. You just have to select which one to use. I think it remembers the last one used, at least mine does.

This is getting more interesting by the minute. I have the weekend to play with all of this and it sounds like a blast already. I'll try a few voice assignments and see how it goes.

I wanted to give a pat on the back to my good friend Bill Grosse. Some of you might know him from the PSRtutorial site. He had also been very helpful in getting me started with the midi info I needed to know and he setup the first control map for me.

Thanks Bill,

Deane

No, and I'm not happy with the way my dealer handled it, but that's a different story. It is not Rolands' fault. Has to do with a friend who works there dropping the ball.
Should be back soon though.

A member asked for a sample of this song on the BK-7m so here it is. The style is from the Music Assistant using the OTS voices - no tweaks - and the song is played very simply so as not to get in the way of the Module's sounds.
