Hello all!

I am a total novice when it comes to synths and keyboards etc, so please excuse my terminology and knowledge being so basic. That said, there are three questions I would love answered:

1. How do I transfer ready-made sounds (or even entire parts to a song) from one synthesizer to another ready for live performance? Would it be possible to reprogram the sounds from one to another at all with both usually being so different? I wouldn't want to lend out my equipment to the keyboardists - I would rather they used their own.

2. I am confused by the difference between keyboards (not necessarily synths) and sequencers. When I examine product descriptions of several sequencers, I read that they contain "100 Dance beats" and "hundreds of voices" etc - this sounds like a keyboard to me. Is there an advantage to using sequencers as opposed to keyboards during performances in addition to the obligatory synths?

3. My ideal live setup would consist of:

Guitar/Vocals
Bass guitar
2 of these
Drum Machine

If I was aiming to produce music akin to the Sisters of Mercy (synth-driven in parts, but not totally so like with Depeche Mode... mostly a background thing) would this be a realistic setup, with regard to the number of synthesizers?

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Sorry for the appalling spelling mistake in the title.

Hi!
1. Programs, samples, system and sequencer data can only be shared between identical or compatible synthesizer models.

2. A MIDI sequencer and MIDI are:

A SYNTHESIZER is:

"A synthesizer (spelling var. synthesiser) is an electronic musical instrument designed to produce electronically generated sound, using techniques such as additive, subtractive, FM, physical modelling synthesis, or phase distortion.
Synthesizers create sounds through direct manipulation of electrical voltages (as in analog synthesizers), mathematical manipulation of discrete values using computers (as in software synthesizers), or by a combination of both methods. In the final stage of the synthesizer, electrical voltages generated by the synthesizer cause vibrations in the diaphragms of loudspeakers, headphones, etc. This synthesized sound is contrasted with recording of natural sound, where the mechanical energy of a sound wave is transformed into a signal which will then be converted back to mechanical energy on playback (though sampling significantly blurs this distinction).
Synthesizers traditionally has a keyboard which provides the human interface to the instrument and are often thought of as keyboard instruments. However, a synthesizer's human interface does not necessarily have to be a keyboard, nor does a synthesizer strictly need to be playable by a human. (See sound module.)"

That would be $10.00.

Hey man, thanks for your help. Your answer to question number two was very helpful indeed, and it clears a lot up to hear the definitive answer to the one question I have been wanting to know for a long time (sound transfer).

Cheers.
