I too think the pa80 is the best arranger I have ever played for a live situation. Some of the acoustic drum kits leave little to be desired, but most of them sound incredible. I have installed the turk/arab card and its sound ridiculous.

Now a silly question, All of my keyboards hav aftertouch, but i never knew exactly what that was. Any explanations?

My keyboard doesn't have aftertouch and I never tried a keyboard with aftertouch, but I talked to some great arab keyboardists, and some of them say you really don't need aftertouch when playing arab music?
This seems like a mixed issue to me, some people swear by aftertouch, some people say it is not necessary????

I think it’s a matter of taste and how expressive you want to sound. In my opinion, utilizing that feature with certain sounds (sax, etc…) will definitely make you sounds better.

Mikey those keyboard players who told you this are very wrong, it is the other way we use after touch in Arabic music as much as western music.
The 1st great keyboard player who used to apply vibrato to his solos was Hani Mehanah he is the 2nd keyboard player to play Arabic music with Oum Kalthoum and Abdul Halim Hafez.
He used to use the slider on his Keyboard to apply the vibrato when playing solo and after they came out with after touch which you apply pressure on the keys to get some kind of effect as programmed in your keyboard every one started using the after touch for vibrato, Tarek Akef one of the great keyboard players and arranger uses this method a lot in his playing and now we all love it and use it.
On my Kurzweil I have so many options for after touch (you can bend notes or change the cutoff frequencies and more) this method is called MODULATION.
I hope this article will help you understand after touch and try to use it as much as you feel (its all about feelings) Vega is one keyboard that does not have the after touch but if you really need to use it you can do it with the pitch bender but pushing it up, then again if your left hand is busy with changing chords tough luck.
It’s always better to use 2 keyboards one for arrangement and the other for solos.

I have to agree with everything Asafar said...I don't see any mixed opinions about after-touch and arabic music. I personally have one thing holding me back from buying the Vega which is the fact that it does not have after-touch. There is soooo much you can do with after-touch and the expressivness can be different from one sound to the other. I have a T3 that I use and for accordions my after touch is different than for my saxes and different for my acoustic guitar and so on.

Some keyboards even though they have after-touch they don't have all the options like the KORG or the Kurzweil do.

One thing I may not totally agree with Asafar is on using the Joy stick in the Y direction...even though you can do some expressivness with that its not the same as using the after-touch (at least for me).

Arabic keyboard playing and after-touch go hand in hand as far as I am concerned. Also that goes for the pitch bender...one thing I hate about my X1 is the fact that it has wheels, I can do so much more with the bender.

Ok play on guys.
