I have a Xp-50 and I use it to play midi files. Some files play just fine, but once in a while some files have problems. Examples: Files will play missing tracks(Like Bass or percusions), other files only play the drum tracks, some files have problems only at the begging of the track and ususally I need to put a space before the actual song tracks. The only way to "fix" the problem is turning the keyboard off and on. Any ideas? Does the Xp-50 has a Hard Drive that might need to be replaced?

Are you switching between midi files and performance or part playing? If so, you may be losing the GM reset. I no longer have my XP50 (went to using a laptop) but when I did I had similar problems. I started pressing the GM/GS reset before each song just to be safe. Also, I sometime experienced that with my Yamaha PSR2000 or Korg i3 and even off the PC into a sound module, so I think it might have something to do with sys ex messages too. I hope this helps. I really liked my XP, but sold it to buy something newer - ain't got there yet, but I'm looking at the new VR-760.

That really helps, thanks. But where is the GM/GS reset button?

Basicly Roland = GS format.
Most of roland gear supports GM but you will have to switch to GM as the default start up = GS mode.
I don't have an XP 50 but several other Roland boards.
To avoid your problem I would recommand to change All your midi's into GS midifiles.

The quickest way to do this and with the best control on all patches used is done on a PC with a sequencer like Cakewalk/Sonar.
As there are downloadable instrument patches for your XP50 for usage with Cakewalk/Sonar.
