I thought I'd post it here again as it must of gotten lost in the mix...didn't see any responses.
BTW did you re-tune the drums on the PSR3k they sound great now.

Thanks Donny. The style file I used was one that I retuned a couple years ago, changed the OTS settings, and made a few volume changes. I'll send you the file.

Thanks Steve. I've always liked this song, but never got around to playing and singing it until now. I was always worried that my senior audiences would not like it. I was wrong--they love it. I'll fire the style file off to you as well, and anyone else that wants it.

Thanks guys,

Gary

is this a converted styles that sometimes happens in a conversion to another unit for playback.

No Spalding, 'your' ears are just fine.

The irritatingly distracting drumkit instrument note is heard in the right channel, and easily detected playing continuously throughout most of the song, but worse yet, it's way 'out of time (sync)' too. The bigger mystery to me though is 'why' other 'musicians' here aren't easily hearing this too.

Gar, hope you can go back and remove the annoying note(s) because otherwise, it sounded fine.

Scott,

I can't hear it, but this likely because most of my high frequency hearing is shot to hell--literally. Too many booming cannons when I was a youngster in the U.S. Navy and no hearing protection other than cotton balls stuffed in your ears. I posted a link so you and anyone else can download the style file. If you can find time to fix the problem, please do so using your keyboard's Style Creator program. Then, email it to me and I'll redo the song and post the fixed style.

Cheers,

Gary

Hi Gary. The boxnet file opened ok. Yep, I hear the hi-hat thing, too. Can you do the song a few keys higher? Sounds ok as is, but I just feel the vocals would project better or give it a bit more punch, if sung in a higher key.

I'll give it a shot in a higher key later tonight. Keep in mind that I have a bullfrog voice--not down there with the Oakridge Boys, but I can belt out Elvira pretty good. I'll post a link when the song is finished.

I just tried recording a couple half-steps higher using the same technique and the Zoom H2, it was a bit distorted and I'll have to work on it again when I get some free time--maybe tomorrow.

Also, I listened to the style file's high hats, ran the style through the keyboard's Style Creator program, quantized the drum kit, but nothing changed. I'm not hearing something that's out of timing--just a different high-hat than traditional. Maybe it's a bit more bluesy sounding--I just don't know because I can barely hear it--even with headphones.

Gary

I've got some latency problems with this computer Donny, otherwise I would have used mixcraft the first time around. Gotta' upgrade this 9 year old computer sometime soon, but right now my priorities for the current income is to dump the money into getting the new sailboat ready for spring.

Gar, the problem is with the drum note heard during the song's first measure count-off. During the count off it's 'in time', but immediately after that (:05-:06 sec) it starts up again but at an entirely different 'tempo & groove' and completely out of sync with the song itself, and continues (tick tick tick tick tick tick) throughout the entire song! I suspect now you had your keyboard's metronome 'turned on' and had it playing at a different tempo while recording and accidentally recorded that 'metronome tick' too. Whatever it is, I had a few other pro musician friends listen & they clearly hear it too. - Scott

I think I figured it out--not the metronome though. It has an indicator light and on/off switch that I would instantly see. It has something to do with the program that was used to adjust the volumes.

I figured out the problem with the style file, reconfigured the style volumes and added new OTS settings. For those of you that downloaded the original style file, download this one and let me know if you can hear the difference. You can download the style file from the same location. click here

Trident,

The problem was created by a program that I used to lower the volumes within the styles. For some strange reason it did something to the high-hat timing in relation to the drum--something I never encountered in the past. Scott called last night an said he would rather have the high-hat removed altogether, but I kinda' like the high-hat in the drum mix.

Thanks for listening,

Gary

Gar, at your age, you're entitled and deserve to have it ’any' way you like. That said, I do like the higher key.

the hi hat timing is a better but i get the feeling it wasnt programmed this way originally. It doesnt fit with the hard blues style that the snare and kicki drum and bass line have been programmed for. Is the hi hat on a separate track to the main drum kit ?

I suspect someone altered the quantise measure on the hi hat track because at the very end of the song when it fades out the hi hat changes to 16th notes which is what it should have been in the first place.

But thanks for posting up your music and the higher key definately works better for your voice.
