Come'on somebody who knows this things, I need some advice if this is the only or correct way to upgrade from v3.0C.

First:

(A) If you have not installed any previous versions of 4.0 or later (i.e. you currently have OS3.0c or earlier on your keyboard)

1. Download the file SD1ORG.EXE and unzip all it’s contents onto an empty FD.
2. With the SD1 turned off, insert this disk into the FD of the unit and while holding down Midi (F6) button, turn on the keyboard.
3. The new files will be loaded and upon completion, the SD1 will automatically reboot.
4. Create on the SD1 a new Folder “NoSound” as follows:
a. Press Disk.
b. Press Folder (F8).
c. Press New (F1).
d. Write the name “NOSOUND” using the keys.
e. Press EXECUTE (F10).
5. Download the files PBANKNS1.EXE , PBANKNS2.EXE , PBANKNS3.EXE onto 3 blank FDs and copy these 94 files into the newly created HD folder ‘NOSOUND’ of the SD1.
6. Go to the new HD folder, select and LOAD the file ‘Sd1style.sty’. When completed, SELECT and LOAD the file ‘Sd1pbank.h80’ which will load all other associated files. This will reload the new Flash style format associated with this OS.
7. The SD1 will reset itself after all relevant files have been loaded into memory.

_______________________________________________________________

Then continue like this?

SD1 UPDATE 4.0b INSTALLATION

Here is the correct procedure to properly install the Update 4.0 for SD1.

Download from web site into your computer all the 12 Files .exe.
Copy the Update Software to the Floppy by clicking on the file SD1Stan.exe and than on the function Unzip. The 36 Program files will be automatically transferred onto Floppy disk.
Insert the Floppy with the Program into the SD1’s driver while it is turned off.
Switch On the keyboard holding down the function button Midi (F6) for a second. The new Program will be automatically installed in SD1. When installation begins, you may release the F6 button. At the end, the message "Flash not formatted" will appear. Proceed and press “Format”.
Turn off the Master Folder to prevent undesired copying or overwrite into the Folder Reload – 90 by turning of the Master Folder LED.
Create on the SD1’s Hard Disk a new Folder, giving it the name “STANDARD”. To create the folder, proceed as follows:

- Press Disk
- Press Folder – F8
- Press New -F1
- Write the name “Standard”
- Press Execute- F10.

Before proceeding, be sure that Folder you are using is the Standard one just created (and not a User 01 or others).

Download one by one from the Computer to Floppy disk all files Pcm.exe and PBank.exe, clicking first on the .exe icon and then on the Unzip function.

Then copy the content of every Floppy disk into the folder Standard previously created on the SD1’s Hard Disk.

NOTE: This operation can be made using just 1 Floppy disk (by copying from computer to floppy, floppy to HD, erase floppy and copy the next file from computer to floppy…) or using as many Floppies as the files to be loaded (approximately 14). For faster operations of such nature, it is advisable to utilize the KetronFT program found on our website. This will require the purchase of the special cable 9AC123 which will link your computer to the computer host connection of the SD1. Once this software is installed, you will be able to copy directly and rapidly from your computer to the HD of the SD1 all relevant files (111).

Select in the Standard Folder the file 0Flash.rld and then press Load (F2) to confirm. After loading is terminated, the SD1 reset itself automatically.

Select once more in the Standard Folder the file 0Standard.rld and press Load (F2) to confirm. This operation (which requires some time) installs into the SD1 the new Style’s Parameters, the new Sound Program and other internal operating files set by KETRON. After this operation, you may choose to reload your files that were saved prior to the beginning of this update.
After loading has been completed the SD1 resets itself.

The Update 4.0 is entirely installed and the “new” SD1 is ready to be played!

Flash Style Replacement

It is possible to strongly enhance and personalize the keyboard by replacing individual internal Flash Styles with some of the Patterns optimised and offered from KETRON together with the SD1 Restyling or with other completely new Styles.

The Replacement operation can be easily achieved by following these instructions:

- Download from the styles web page into your computer the Patterns you prefer.

- Copy the Patterns on a Floppy disk and insert the Floppy into the SD1’s driver.

- Copy the Patterns from Floppy into the Hard Disk. They can be copied into the Master Folder or into any other folder you prefer.

- Press Utility, go to Page 3 and press Password – F6. Press again F6 to Unlock the Password Folder protection and confirm with F 10.

- Now press Disk to see the Pattern directory.

- Select with Value the first Pattern and press Load (F2).

- The Display will ask for the Style to be replaced. Scroll with the -Value + buttons the Flash Style locations until you find the one you want to replace with the new Pattern.

- Press Execute to confirm.

The size of Flash memory available for Style Replacement is clearly displayed on the screen anytime a Replace operation is made. Normally it should be possible to replace the 109 Flash Styles in the SD1.

If more space is required (“Pat Flash Full” will be displayed), then it may be necessary to replace one of the internal Styles with an empty or a very small Pattern/Style.

Download installation files

SD1STAN.EXE
PBANK1.EXE
PBANK 2.EXE
PBANK 3.EXE
PCM86.EXE
PCM 88.EXE
PCM 90.EXE
PCM 98.EXE
PCMA0.EXE
PCMA8.EXE
PCMB0.EXE
PCMB8.EXE

Then finally like this, but what file to choose???

SD1 Rel. 4.0c - SD1 Plus

1) Download the .exe file:
Original Software Upgrade per SD1
Standard Software
Upgrade per SD1 Plus
2) Unzip the file downloaded from internet and copy the 36 files in a 1,44MB floppy disk.
3) Switch off the instrument and insert the floppy disk with the extracted files in the keyboard's driver .
4) Switch on the instrument while holding down the tab " F6 ", on the display , after the keyboard's logo, the following writings will appear :
Loading : DIRECTORY
Loading : DC000000.BIN
Loading : DD000000.BIN
………..
………..
Loading : FF000000.BIN
WRITE PROGRAM ON FLASH 0
WRITE PROGRAM ON FLASH 2
…………
…………
WRITE PROGRAM ON FLASH 35
5) At the end of loading , the instrument will reset automatically and the updating phase is completed .

________________________________________________________

Is this correct, or are there any easier or other way to do this??

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jonny,
I haven't bothered updating my SD1+ yet.
( I think mines got 4b & working fine)
Just be careful updating an SD1 to " SD1+ " format.
I'm not all that familiar with Ketron models, but the SD1 & SD1+ as far as I'm aware is not the same machine.
My SD1+ came with an SD1 Manual plus an additional SD1+ manual with the extra functions etc available in the sd1+.
I think that may be like trying to put a kn7 update into a kn6.
AJ would probably be suited to help you.

best wishes

Thanks for the info Rikki.
The last part of the update info above describe 4.0C and then SD1+, so maybe it's a matter of what file in that part to choose to get 4.0C or SD1+ version?
Well, the deal is done, so I'll pick up the "new" baby tomorrow morning.
Yet another toy to explore.

GJ

Btw, does the KETRONFT tool work in XP as well?

Congratulations on your new toy.
Maybe wait till you get some additional feedback or maybe get in touch with AJ, you wouldn't want to install the incorrect operating system. I wouldn't want to recommend anything.

I've noticed in EMC for instance, that my sd1+ has more "Live drums" mentioned than exist in the emc sd1 program, stuff like that.

I must admit I haven't studied all the functions in the sd1+ anywhere near to the same degree as I did my Technics Kn7( still kicking myself for selling it) But if I can be of any help, let me know.

Thanks Rikki.

I've already asked AJ in another tread here, also a mail, but he are probably a very busy man.
Guess I have to take it step by step as usual, you'll never know, someday I might find out how things work.

Happy Playing.

Hi Jonny,
he sometimes takes a few days to answer, then he has a burst & answers as many as he can.

Just stay away from anything that mentions sd1+, just to be on the safe side.

There is a Yahoo solton group http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/solton/

One thing that I did do with my Ketron when I first bought it was back up the hard drive. It works differently to our KN's.
Great way of transferring files backwards & forwards.

You need Ketron FT software http://www.ketron.it/prodotti/dettagli.asp?sezione=5&idProdotto=-3

and the Ketron serial cable Code 9AC123 for a PC http://www.ketron.it/prodotti/index.asp?idTipo=2

a normal one won't work ( wiring is different & locks pc up)

If you have a pc with serial , then no problem. If you only have usb , then you need a serial to usb adapter.

best wishes

Thanks again Rikki.
Already been at those links many times during the years, but not really for any other purpose than curiosity. Now it's more useful.
Cable are included, software downloaded, so we'll see what happens when I start work more seriously with this things.

Thanks again, and have a wonderful X-Mas everybody.

Updated sucessfully to v 4.0b with all new sounds etc., so the next question are:

What file to chose to add v. 4.0c? Anybody done it, and what to gain?

SD1 Rel. 4.0c - SD1 Plus

Download the 1 - 2 or 3rd.exe file:

1. Original Software Upgrade per SD1
2. Standard Software
3. Upgrade per SD1 Plus

Is it all 3 that have to be loaded into SD for final update, or only one of the files to stay at a certain level?

And again, thanks for your help.

Hi Jonny,
great that your cables included.
When I bought my sd here in Aust. they didn't have the cables at that time. Fortunately for me, Don M ( synthzone member) was kind enough to post me his spare one.

Enjoy your new toy.
Merry Xmas

Hi AJ or somebody who can explain...

After the update to 4.0b, there are some bugs, i.e. when play Piano Ball
from custom styles 8 Beat section, the endings are missing!! ??
Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong?

When try call up the style from folder 90 to replace, I got message
"2 PAT. Fat Error" when try to save as described in the upgrade manual.

I also try reload the styles as described in manual page 121 and everything
looked to work fine, but when turn on keyboard, all styles was missing.

I'm now trying to do as manual say regarding to complete backup and reload
as it was from factory. All styles still missing!!!

What do I do now??

Hi.

Even if I've reported it in another tread, this tread also should
have a happy ending.

Reupdated everything with success. Ketron Italy sent me a tiny
".sty" type file at 96kb to load, and just like magic, the missing
endings is OK again, without any further actions than just "load".
Great!

Happy Playing.

Hi GJ,

Can you please clarify the following:

In one of the steps they mention that the total no. of files should be 111. Here are the no. of files I got when I unzip:
PBANKNS1 = 33
PBANKNS2 = 32
PBANKNS3 = 29
PCM86 = 3
PCM88 = 1
PCM90 = 1
PCMA0 = 1
PCMA8 = 1
PCMB0 = 1
PCMB8 = 1
PCM98 = 1
-------------------
Total = 104

Thanks for your reply,

George

Hi.

Full update to 4.0b or c will show:

PBANK1 = 41 files
PBANK2 = 40 files
PBANK3 = 20 files

The files you mention is the not the same "pbank" files,
cause the files you describe ends with "ns" (nosound),
that's the update without soundchanges from 3.0 and I
refer to the manual and downloads for full update.

Cheers

Thank you GJ,

I have updated everything as per the manuals. But now I feel that the old sound of the board was better than the new sound. Is there a way we can get the old sound back ?

Hi

If you did it as described in manual and used the "nosound"
method, you should still have the "old" sounds as before.
Anyway, what's really changed is described if you follow the
link at the bottom of the "update manual" page.

To downgrade, I think you have to find the 3.0c version of
the pbank files, and then follow what you can read in page
121 in Ketron SD1 manual before update only the OS again.

However, I'm not, I repeat, NOT any clever at the SD1 at all,
and to be sure about what to do, you can try contact Ketron
support by email or by use the contactfield at www.ketron.it

Or, if any luck, maybe AJ see this and take time to give some
advice? Also you could seek through the other posts here and
see what to find about the topic.

Myself I think I stay with 4.0c and the new sounds. I don't
really remember how the edited ones sounded like before, cause
I did update at once I got the SD1 to have the newest OS and
the new sounds, who I think are similiar as SD1 Plus now?

Happy Playing
