Wow! Just what every S910 owner was asking for!

Encryption on your wireless internet connection to your arranger... Just in case someone wanted to sniff in and steal your custom registrations, perhaps?

Diki do you ever stop bashing everything?
it's getting so boring and predictive.

Donny...it's best to feel sympathy for poor Diki...he couldn't make any impact on the Audya and Mediastation owners.

I could practically hear him murmur under his breath, "Curses! Foiled again!"

Now, he's reaching for straws and criticizing Yamaha for adding something HE doesn't think is useful.

It is actually pitiful.

I'm not bashing... just making fun

Face it, Donny, if this came up as an upgrade to something OTHER than a Yamaha, you'd be joking about it, too.

You know, those of you willing to dish it out for other brands ought to have a little humor about your own stuff, too

Exactly...all the more reason to follow your own advice.

You've been so busy with all your criticisms of pretty well everything, it's quite hard to tell when you are joking...even the smily faces don't help any more.

Sounds like you need a vacation, or a trip to a spa.

Life is meant to be sipped...not gulped.

You make my points for me. If you are deliberately LOOKING for a slight, you will find it no matter WHAT I write. And, you know what? I really don't care. You can take it any way you want. I don't see you leaping to the defense of any manufacturer other than that which you use. That could be described as hypocrisy, if one was trying to be honest, rather than politically correct.

This forum is about the free exchange of opinion. You are entitled to yours. I am entitled to mine. Free speech sucks, doesn't it?

Mind you, better tread lightly about the MS... wouldn't want to incur the Wrath of Open Fans! Best thing might be to not post anything at all... that way, you are sure of not offending the thin of skinned.

Tell you what.... you go first

I thought Diki was very funny. And I thought the firmware update is a bit lame, even though there is a possibility that while you're keyboard is connected to the internet, that some hacker can do something malicious.

It would be nice if they threw in some new capability or something fun.

I have to go with Diki on this one. Encrypted registrations were high on my list of enhancements. How about real sounding drums and a harmonizer that is not a joke instead?

I sorta gotta agree as well. Encryption seems like a pointless enhancement to me. Can anyone suggest why this would be wanted? I am hard pressed to think of a good reason.

If your Wireless router is set up correctly using WPA/WPS encryption, (Forget WEP as its easily cracked) then unless the item you wish to connect can use WPA/WPS encryption, there is no way it will be able to access the router wirelessly unless the router encryption is turned off. (A definite no no as it leaves your network wide open to anybody with a wireless dongle or phone)
NOTE: Encryption does not apply to wired connections

As Abacus states above, most people these days will use a WPA variation of encryption on their wireless routers as WEP is considered out-of-date and open to possible hacking threats. It is not about stealing anything off your keyboard, actually it is about protecting your entire network from possible intrusion.

Until now, the PSR-S910 and PSR-S710 (CVP-500 series also has firmware update supporting WPA etc) couldn't gain access wirelessly to a WPA encrypted network unless you altered your router's settings to WEP or worse to encryption off.

This is a feature owners have been asking for on YPKO, so it is indeed a welcome addition.

That only goes to show that the PSR S910 is the most musically perfect arranger on the planet that an upgrade did not address a musical feature but an internet connection one.

I don't think we should be expecting another arranger from Yamaha because musically, they can not make an arranger better than the PSR S910.

Oh, BTW. Does this mean that you will be changing your name to "to the S910"?

Not really Chas...I'm sure the S910 can be made better, but I have no suggestions...still, the next S-series will probably be better in some way, just like the S910 was a tad better than the S900, and so on.

I like surprises. Most times Yamaha adds something really cool I never would have thought of...they are like the Japanese automakers...incremental change is the norm...and, it seems to work for them...also, they rarely delete useful functions, but seem to, most always, add new ones.

The S-series is inexpensive enough to allow me, and many others, to trade up every three years or so, or to skip over a model and then trade up...the cost of ownership over that period of time, is relatively low compared to other hobbies.

Well, at least this thread has demonstrated who have a sense of humor here, and who haven't...

Oh, and possibly who doesn't have an idea in his head about how to improve something he plays every day.

And, the next time you see a few members flame me for merely pointing out the same kind of inanities that plague many of our arrangers, ask yourself WHY they are doing it... have they actually got a POINT, or are they just doing it to beard the lion in his den?

I can hardly wait until you develop one...things here on SZ would improve dramatically.

Just responding in kind, Beaky. Or is it that I'm the ONLY one not allowed to be unpleasant? Look at this thread. My humorous (at least you thought so) response to the post, then Donny and Ian's bitchslapfest. You want to tell people not to be unpleasant, try telling EVERYBODY not to do it...

Best of luck with that one.

Maybe, after you have been called boring, predictive (I'm sure the dyslexic Donny MEANT predictable, but who's quibbling? ), and pathetic for a mild humorous comment, you are going to be SO grateful when someone calls YOUR response 'unpleasant', but has nothing to say about those that slandered you...
