I am looking at the latest copy of the American Musical Supply catalog and I noticed the Roland VP7 Vocal Module. The list on it is $549.

Is this the harmonizer built into my G70 only in a module? I don't remember hearing about it at all. Where is our Roland reporter Mr. Fran Carango? Fran always tests everything new from Roland. Did I miss it? Are you sick Fran?

Tom

Tom, No it is not a replacement for the G70 harmonizer...It does not analyze like the G70..for example songs that are SMF's, without selecting a pre selected midi channel..It will not do a lot of the things we can do with the G70 harmonizer..recognizing Tune 1000 tracks automatically is another thing the G70 will do..playing as a real vocal vocoder..

The VP7 is a VP770 module with most of the same goodies..

It cannot replace my G70 harmonizer, but what the VP7 will do for me (Yes I have one ordered.. )...I need the great Choir /Scat voices when I use the Prelude..(like the Fantom the choirs suck and no scats aboard)...The GS instrument ..G70 still rules in choirs and real human voices..let alone scat..

Being able to use the features of the VP7 will be cool with the Prelude..as long as I play the voicing I want with harmony..I will have to experiment a bit with channel assign as I did with the Tune 1000 Harmony box..

Now let me get back to the zeppole...

remember the old Dunkin Donuts advertising "52 Varieties of Donuts" Here in Rhode Island we've got at least 52 varieities of this dessert. If you're ever on the east coast look Tony or I up. You'll get your share of Zeppole.

Fran, unless I'm reading the specs wrong, the VP7 doesn't begin to approach the features of the VP770 (starting with just 3 part harmony). I could be wrong but it seems to me that if you could duplicate a VP770 with just the addition of a cheap 49key controller for only $7xx bucks, NOBODY would ever buy a 770. But hey, maybe you know something over and above the specs. How about one of your famous side by side comparisons. Maybe I could have saved a bundle.

The VP-7 is basically the VP-770 keyboard in a module form if you ask me. Here is a nice demo of the VP-7. The only downside is there doesn't seem to be a 'full' choir effect i.e. more than three voice harmony. Other than that though, it appears to be a fairly capable unit.

All the best,
Mike
