Tiger Wood's Swedish wife, Elin... do you pronounce it as EEE-lin, with a "long E," (as in "tree") or as Eh-lin, with a "short E," (as in "egg")? I actually really do need to know the answer to this and a Google didn't solve it.

More later as to this mystery request.

The newscasters I have heard use your "Tree" analogy for Elin.

Speaking of that Bill...an 18 wheeler in my part of the country is called a Semi (sem-eye).

Does that apply to your screen name?

BTW... the ladies here pronounce Tiger thusly: Dirtbag.

As far as his infidelity, I think the latest count is 14 over par.

He will probably be doing the Viagara commercials now.

There you are, "short E" and "lin" as you say the last part in violin, then you just say Elin
and everybody think you're Scandinavian.

Btw, here you can hear the song "Drømmen om Elin"
In English that's "My Dream About Elin"

Now that they are separated, all the other golf pros are calling Elin . . .
They want to know what club it takes to beat Tiger.

Not really, the long EEE is because it's in a song, when speak you
use short E like in egg as you described it.

Well, you have totally confused me! In the USA, a pronunciation is what it is. You don't sing it differently. Not that I can think of. Show me an example where it's short e! Eddie, in the first post, said that Announcers say Long E and your song shows Long E. What gives?

If you pronunce the E like the one in Eddie, it's correct.
What I meant by say long E when sing, it's just that sometimes you
stretch the words a bit to fit the melodyline, so the in the song
it may sound like a long E in Elin.
Sorry for the confusion, I could express myself far better in
Norwegian, because then we just say: Elin.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Tiger himself, during interviews on golf shows, pronounce it Elin, with the long E.

Hi

Maybe!
But I guess that one talent he missed is to speak a Scandinavian language.
Elin is pronunced in Danish like it is in Norwegian.

Maybe this is an examle who sounds more like it does in her
native Swedish language:
When say the words letter, message or weld the E sounds like it does
when we say Elin, but if you say E as a single letter in english it
sounds like the way Swedish or Norwegians pronunce the letter i (I).

When sing it as you hear in the YouTube clip it sounds more like:
"Drøøøøøømmen om Eeeeeelin" or in English "dreeeeeaming 'bout Eeeeeelin"
thats what I meant by say long E.

OT ?? Nah, much music in speaking languages

Well for many many years English and European bands have pronounced words with the American pronounciation including bands such as The Beatles and Rolling Stones even though that is not how they would normally pronounce them in daily speech. That is why the accent of non-American bands is not always obvious ... because they sing with an American accent.

When it comes to singing there is always creative freedom when it comes to pronounciation. Whatever makes the song work.

This has nothing to do with pronunciation, but its comical enough to share. My 82 year old father in law ( an avid golfer himself) has this philosophy that Tiger has a disease and there must be some kind of pill to help him and it's not Viagra .

Reminds me of "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon" by the Andrew Sisters. "Schon" isn't pronounced correctly but had to rhyme with "explain".

I seldom post her, but in this serious matter I can't resist! ;-)
Although you are a close neighbour,Gunnar Jonny, I don't think you got the pronunciation quite correct. Listen to: http://forvo.com/word/elin/
I think this is a fairly decent pronunciation of the word "Elin"

Greetings and A Merry Christmas from a snowy Sweden!

Hej Janne,
nice to see you join in.

The link you provided is a nice tool and sure sounds better than I'm able to explain by writing.
But that said, it may be some local variations depending of where we are around the Scandinavian
countries due to local native tongue.
Swedish in general are more "melodic" than Norwegian that is more "stright forward" sort of speak.
Also if you listen to the way they sing in YouTube clip, and the word spoken in the spoken clip
it's a difference even if both are Swedish.

Skål, og ha en trivelig Jul og et Godt Nytt År!

And I mean sizzling!

Never mind all the variations in pronunciation. If you all want to get into that, it's pretty much a given that anyone anywhere only has to listen around in their own country to find varying dialects, they're endless.

Anyway, Sem-eye Live, care to unveil the 'mystery' yet? The world in all it's linguistic variety awaits with bated breath.

As for "SemiLive" ... I think it is along the lines of "They wanted to hire LIVE music, but I was as close as they could get" ...

The mystery is that I wrote a parody about Tiger Woods and the original melody was based on a Christmas carol. I researched it and found the publisher of the carol. I contacted them and the bad news is... they denied my request for a license. Due to the "sexual" nature of the lyric. I thought it was pretty tame! You should have seen the first version.

So, I have now written my own melody. I don't know if it will ever see the light of day but I played it at two gigs this week and it brought the house down both times. So, for my crazy friends, at least, it was a hit.

These types of things can go viral on youtube, etc. That is what I had it mind, haha. I dunno, I kinda got fired up but it'll probably never be sung after another week or so.

Yay! It sounds like a lot of fun to me. Git 'er on You Tube, strike while the iron's hot - you've got to be a better looker than Susan Boyle . Hey, and just tell us what original carol your lyric was set to, then we can all get the original intent.
