is there anything out there that can hook up to a guitar with drum patterns and bass lines that follow the guitar playing?

You might want to check out some of the Boss drum/rhythm machines at their site: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productlist.php?ParentId=250

I've always liked the look/concept of the Midjay, but what are the Sounds like - as in "General Midi" always worries me.

How does it go with Velocity switched Samples for MIDI playback for instance?

DocZ, At one time I put a midi pick up on my guitar and connected it to a Yamaha keyboard via midi. I had bass and drums and the full accompaniment is I wanted.

Thanks for all the info guys.

first those Boss drum machines don't follow you, you have to follow them, but they have real cool built in effects for the guitar though.. You can program your songs on them, but then you're stuck to that thing. You can't like "Ok let's do one more chorus guys - come on sing it baby!!".

And doesn't those MiDI guitar thingys have long latency issues?

That MIDJAY can you plug your guitar in and it will interpret the audio from your guitar and make chords?

The thing that sparked this was I saw the Digitech Vocalist Live 2, which is great! You just plugin your guitar and sing, and it makes harmonies for you, you can play single notes, chords, soloes, fingerpickin' whatever and you get a harmony. I thought maybe some clever people had developed something similar for bass-lines.
