You know, that business of playing the Intro or ending, and sitting there with your hands folded in your lap makes my blood boil!

Isn't it about time we DEMANDED the simple addition of a chord readout to Intros and endings to allow us to play along (rather than have to memorize ALL the Intro changes for hundreds or thousands of styles) or all we CAN do is sit there like a plank, and make it obvious to anyone watching that we haven't got a clue how to play our own instrument?!

I mean, it's only reasonably recently they added a simple bar countdown, so you even knew how many bars long it was going to be! Why not go the distance, and add a chord readout (many arrangers have them for SMF playback, so the system already CAN do it) to the Intros and endings, then you don't have to sit there like an idiot while the machine plays stuff (that's invariably MUCH better than you can play!) and your audience goes 'Look! He's just miming to it..!"?

Diki, spot on observation and comment, the pre orchestrated intro's do little for our reputation as players as if you use them it's the first thing non players notice that your not playing so they assume the instruments play themselves all the way through the song !! not a good reflection on our real abilities...I hate using them.

I like Roland's feature that shows bar countdown for the endings. I generally use the short endings, but some of the endings are pretty good with big drum stuff at the ends.
You have to be careful with both intros and endings or the audience starts recognizing them. I suppose the same goes for styles.
The simpler the style and the more of your own playing the better, at least for me.
I think the demonstrator wanted to be sure we knew it was the intros and endings playing though.
Can't believe they charge for these styles. Yes they are good, but not good enough to pay extra for.

I play in between some of the prerecorded intros/endings all the time whats the big deal?...were not fooling anyone just think of it as playing with a band & your waiting to come in on your parts...why do people think they are so Pure..High & Mighty?...there's no way around it, if you play an arranger KB you are the operator of an automatic generated music machine...be proud of it instead of trying to be pretend to be something your not.
If you want to be a purist don't play an auto arranger.

Lovely styles...be great for using to make other styles as well as using them as is.

I have hundreds of styles, but I probably use about 30 or so on a regular basis...all of them made using Yamaha's style assembly to make them sound different than the stock factory styles...I never use canned Intros and Endings...I always do my own.

People are usually very willing to buy great styles...these should do very well.

The Tyros3 sounds awesome, as usual.

Editing the Intro/Endings is another feature least explored that can be very advantageous to a player..

For those of you that have never seen Don Mason play, he is the king of playing his own intros and endings.

You can't have it both ways, Donny. 'Spot on' to his comments about NEVER using pre-canned Intros and Endings somewhat contradicts your point, doesn't it?

Oh, I see... as long as you use the same keyboard as Donny, you can say something completely the opposite, and he's OK with it!

So, you've got four or five opinions contra preset Intro/Endings, and Donny for them. So they MUST be good, eh? I guess how you feel may depend a lot on whether you can actually PLAY something as good as the pre-canned segment or not...

I think Donny likes the factory intros, and he also appreciates making your own intros. That isn't inconsistent with his stuff about, "don't be a purist."

I like the factory intros. I have them pretty well remembered, and I always play along. It's probably just for ego. The Yammy intros are so well instrumented, they do not require any accompaniment. My addition is probably slightly cacophononous.

Whatever floats your boat.

I loved the intros on these styles - and the variations. At www.yamahamusicsoft.com they have some other recent T3 styles as well, and they also sound fantastic.

If they don't come out with versions of these styles for the S910, then I just might risk downloading the T3 versions, and I'll see if I have the same success I've had with other T3 styles.

sure you can have it both way......play some factory intros......make a few of your own...play along...don't play along, nobody cares as long as it sounds good. Strive to be the best Arranger Meyboard Automatic Music Operator on your block. Give the audience 150% & you'll be fine.
