Most of you will know both the NEKO(VST based)

Now i was wondering if any of you own one and have tried running live styler on it. Will it work ?

On the NEKO there is running Mimik software.
http://www.openlabs.com/mimik.html
This Mimik software allows you to make a copy of every sound from another instrument. This way you could for example make exact copies of all sounds/instruments from a T3 or a PA2X (except for SA sounds, but they could be replaced with vst's) This way the livestyler should run all yamaha and Korg styles the way they where intended to be.

So did anyone toy around with this concept or know someone that did ?

Open Labs has proven to be a very reliable company over the last few years. And the next version of NEKO should also have access to KARMA.

In my search for the TOTL arranger this could be another option for the all in one solution.

(Only downside... there is no 76 keys version yet)

OL will kinda overcloud the big 3 in the next few years including Ketron and Liontracks.
At least in my opinion...

KARMA is also coming to the Neko this year.

It's going to get interesting in the next few years. At least KORG have had a big head start with the OASYS. Yamaha and Roland don't have any PC based workstations. I bet all 3 though have been very busy behind closed doors.

Open Labs will either get ahead and do very well, or they will be completely blown out of the water when the big 3 go full PC based.

Either way it's going to be fun for us.

James

Hi Bachus.

There's no reason in the world why it shouldn't. The Neko is pretty much a straight PC in a Keyboard Case.

I know a few guys that have Neko's and Miko's and they swear by them. Does everything it says and are real work horses.

Technically yeah, if you sample about 3 or 4 layers of each sound, you can get some pretty excellent emulations of the original sound. It will never sound as good as you cannot reproduce what the Engine does to the sound, but you can get fairly close.

James you are right, but Yammy and Roland are still way behind, Korg started 10 years ago.
I talked to Jerry yesterday...till i pissed him off but no news...lol. Neko and Meko are the only
2 machines that users swear by, nobody is swearing by the MS or Audya yet. I watch Stephen's
presentation of KARMA on OL everyday, that thing would turn the world upside down and Bachus,
its a computer...you can pretty much run anything and you have the hardware controlls in there too.

Yeah, I can see myself owning one in the future for sure. It would really suite my needs and their interface makes using the Neko a dream to work with.

They have taken the PC idea and tamed it so the keyboard really feels like an Instrument first, and a PC second. Really good stuff.

James.

Here is the video of Steven kay playing on Neko with Karma integrated.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wf34ljSSRA&hl=nl

Since you can setup KARMA to follow chords, and there are 32 scenes, i think with a lot of programming you could even use it as an arranger, programming the different scenes as fills, ending and variations...

But even without that, KARMA feels like such a wonderfull toy.

C'mon guys! Why would you want to get a Neko, run LS on it, and then clone all the Yamaha sounds? Get a friggin' Yamaha, if that's what you want to do...

If you want to add VSTi's to an already great Yamaha sound and styles, why not get an inexpensive V-Machine and MIDI it to a T3? Sounds a LOT less complicated, IMO...

Hi Diki.

He only asked the question could you, and the answer is yes. It's a PC so it will run whatever software you thorw into it.

Imagine, you can play Pac Man before you start up gigging each night.

Well, of course, sure, you COULD... But it bears out saying that it is a pretty impractical way of achieving your goal

As we have seen with the MS, it's one thing to say that a piece of kit has the POTENTIAL to do something. And an altogether different thing for anyone to actually achieve that potential... I know it's wonderful to dream, but all too often, we see people that take other's dreams, and mistake them for reality, then have themselves a long and frustrating time before they come to the realization that the other's dreams were, in fact, nightmares!

But, look on the bright side... you could actually Twitter DURING the gig with one of these . Or watch football online DURING the service Maybe even do a bit of day trading...
