I have a Pa2x and am wondering what the difference between it and the Pa500 is, besides the sliders, weighted keys, and speakers. I would like to use it as a travel keyboard since it is not oversize or overweight.

But I need to know by Friday ... thanks!

Many differences!

PA500:
-low quality outputs; low output level
-smaller rom size
-no harmonizer
-no usb for a Flash Drive, only for midi
-poor build quality
-no MP3 capability
-80 voice poly

1. NO mic input
2. Grey scale screen (not bad)
3. Less polyphony, styles and sounds

I really liked the 500, but for the money, the 800 is just way more for little money.

You have forgotten the only difference anyone seems to care about here...

PA500 22 lb.
PA2Xpro 40 lb.

Oh, and no OS2 for PA500... no DNC (SA type voices), no Guitar mode, etc..

So far it seems like the perfect travel keyboard. Oversize and overweight charges are exorbitant nowadays. I'm going to Australia on Sunday and if I take my T3 or Pa2x, I will be paying $750 at least (from NY).

The Pa500 seems to have 90% of the sounds, and 90% of the styles of its older brother ... so I'm thinking this might be a good investment, especially since I have the option to buy one second hand for $950.

Would still like to hear if anyone has anything to add.

Couldn't you just rent one when you get there?

Unless things have changed, Australia is prohibitively expensive and selection of anything is very limited. Australia has only 20 million people living in a space the same size as the US (which has 300 million), so the market for specialized items is small and expensive.

Chony, bear in mind, the 2 machines dont sound the same on a PA system, i've tried, its like
2 different worlds, thats cuz of difference in the outputs, thats what affects the sound.
And i will call you tomorow, thursday, about the e-mail you sent me.

I never played a 800 but just to correct something mentioned here the 500 does have Guitar mode. In my country the 800 more than doubles the price of the 500

This reminds me of when I tried to get the PSR3000 to sound like the Tyros 1. It didn't happen until I used my Behringer UB802 between the keyboard and my JBL's. Although I had the mixer set to flat, the overall sound became pretty much the same as the T1. I suspected besides some of the other differences that the output was somehow modified so it wouldn't sound identical to the T1. Wonder if this would help out the PA500 owners?

Most MOTL and BOTL arrangers have inferior DAC's to their TOTL counterparts, and also compress their sample ROM harder, and use shorter loops, fewer multisamples, etc., resulting in the exact same patch (ostensibly) sounding thinner, brittler, and less satisfying...

But, let's face it. If they WERE identical in sound, who on earth would buy the TOTL?
