Been using one for years to do film score roughs. Don't know much about the operation. My son handles that. I write, produce and play. We're happy with it for what we use it for. Final projects are live drums.

Best thing about the SR-16 (other than the punchy sound) was that it was the first drum machine to create patterns in pairs, and have two fills to go between them, controllable by a footswitch. A great boon to the gigging musician who didn't want to either program a song from beginning to end or play just the one pattern the whole song (yuck! ).

And it could record your variation changes and fills in realtime, to create a whole song backing track in a fraction of the time it takes to step-time it all together.

For it's day, it was the closest thing to an arranger drum section you could buy, with MUCH better drum sounds to boot (hard to find an arranger even today with as punchy a drum sound). Roland and a few others copied the 'two patterns, two fills' concept quite soon afterwards, but sadly, no-one has taken it to the next level and gone the 'four patterns, six or so fills' that arrangers now have. Beats the heck out of me why not...

Diki.., what about the Boss DR-3 http://www.zzounds.com/item--BOSDR3 It doesn't have the full amount of sections you mentioned, but it's set up like an arranger drum section as well. It has 3 fills and 3 variations per pattern.., plus the standard intro ending.

It doesn't switch its pattern exactly like an arranger.., but close enough and you could use a foot switch too.

The DR-3 had great drum sounds..., but BOSS should get their arses kicked based on the pad design alone. Just TERRIBLE. They're not flat.., have a slight curve, too hard, and even quite slick. I always used a midi keyboard to program drum patterns on that thing because playing those pads manually was nasty.

The ROLAND DR-670 are the best sounds out of all the ROLAND even better than the 880 except that it doesn't remember TEMPO,that stinks!
I wish they would add that in an upgrade, but I don't think ROLAND would do something as important as this.
