No change here....They are working great...No cut outs, no loss of highs, like the two problems mentioned by other SZoners...

Last night I worked as a duo..played a 6,000 square feet room..180 people..dinner dance..We were set up in front of a large dance floor, the 802's upright on the floor about eight feet apart...with Kath and myself between them..

The dining tables were set around the dance floor and to the far end of the room...

I played some MP3's on sound check, setting volumes (at the time a near empty room)...at less than 25 percent volume ..already too loud..I was using a mixer with the 802's..basically for Kath's wireless mic and her preferred eq and effects...I ran my G70 into another channel (flat channel), and my mic, and the Laptop into the inputs of the G70...easy control for me...

The 802's performed perfect, with several comments from the audience, how surprisingly great sound from such small speakers (their words)...

This was the first time Kath heard the 802's...She is thinking of buying a pair for herself....

After dinner, it was time for "dance music"...so with a slight boost in volume and eq'd for more bass...the 802's responded well....A very BIG sound, in a small package..and I had tons of headroom...

I had Roland Cubes in my van, in case the room was too much for the 802's......They stayed in the van....

So , how are other's fairing with the 802's and the 10's..I would like to hear from you people....So far for me..it has been a blue chip purchase, with tokens for money...

I love 'em - both the 8s in the studio and the 10s live - LOVE THE 10s live - probably can handle anything Do not miss the Mackies for 1 minute and the buyer is happy too.

Fran,

Come on, you are pulling our leg. Those 802s couldn't possibly work that well, they didn't cost enough. You can't possibly get enough bass without an 18 inch 250 pound powered subwoofer. We both know that only big heavy expensive brand name equipment is good enough for us pros.

I've checked OFD's site and eBay store and I really can't see how or why these homemade speakers can be any better than the brand stuff. Less expensive, yes; I once made a set of 2x12" w/horns PA cabs that sounded wonderfully warm and sturdy. The cost back then was way below what a similar brand package would cost. The same seems true for the Proton lines. So it it the cost savings or the sound that is so attractive?

One way they could do it is to put great components in, with the money they save by not paying big names to use their gear, and by not spending millions on advertising, and by bypassing middle men (brick and mortar stores).
Truth is, for whatever reasons, they sound really good, and for the money are an amazing bargain. We'll see if they hold up a year or two from now. I'm thinking the quality is as good as most big brands.
Comparing them to powered speakers with two amps in each speaker wouldn't really be fair, but I can't tell much difference. Probably could at extreme volume, but I'll never know. If I need something to go REALLY loud I'll use a Bose or two.

I can attest that both 8s and 10s are still amazing. I love the 10s portability (handle) and power for live. For some reason, the 10s feel like lifting 20 lbs vs the 30s something spec.

Home today from my cortisone (C5/6) injection - not fun. Hurts worse and 3 gigs tomorrow and beyond. Working this afternoon on a new tune (HAD to work out a request for tomorrow) damn near killed me, 'cause playing causes the most pain. I'm getting depressed
