About 4:00pm Wed. Don called to say they were putting him in the hospital and he needed me to work. At 11:00pm Wed. night he went to surgery for acute appendicitis. He called this morning and said he still feels terrible and has a fairly high fever. I know we will all be praying for his speedy recovery.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the wishes and prayers. Apparently I made it to surgery just in time. The doctor said it was juat about to rupture. It had been bothering me for about a week.
The symptoms were not quite classic, so they ran a catscan to be sure, and took me to surgery soon after that.
Today I still have fever from the infection and quite a bit of soreness, but I will go home when the fever goes down.
I had breakfast yesterday about 10 and didn't eat again until 9 this morning. Imagine, 23 hours without FOOD!
Doctor is coming back right now.

Hi Hank, we met at the arranger jam last year. I thought Don was a really nice guy and a true credit to the profession. His wisdom is one of the things that makes it worth visiting this board. Please give him my regards and best wishes for a speedy recovery! -Ted

Docter says I have to stay another day or maybe two.
There is still infection where the rotten appendix leaked some, and my temperature is still up. I'm on some strong antibiotics and pain medicine.
I'm glad the basketball playoffs are on.
If anybody wants to call, I have my cell, or it's 318-212-7001 to call my room.

Unless Don had a laparoscope appendectomy procedure he will most likely be unable to fulfill his gig schedule for at least 2 to 3 weeks. The most important thing is to make sure no infection occurs and to get complete rest for a speedy recovery of course.

Glad you caught it time Don. A ruptured appendix would have complicated matters a little, to say the least. Rest up and get well soon. Oh, and try and keep your hands off those pretty nurses okay? >> Just kidding.

All the best,
Mike

The surgery was laproscopic. The doctor said he got it out just in time before it ruptured though.
He first said I could go home this morning. Now is looks as if it will be a couple more days.
Thanks for the support guys.

Don - let me join the crowd and wish you a speedy and painless recovery. I had mine removed in '69 at the age of 19. When they wear out, they wear out!

Glad to know all went well and best wishes for a quick return to your family, your music and related daily fun!

Don ... Don't be in a hurry to get out of there until that infection is TOTALLY gone ... Had my Gall Bladder out a couple of years ago, came home and the following night was right back in the hospital with an E-Coli infection ... after I was stabilized (well, as stable as they could get me ), I had to go home with a 'port' in my arm so Lydia could administer anti-biotics for the next 14 days !!! ...

PS ... Had my appendix removed when I was 17 ... also just before they burst ... it ain't fun ...

Take care, friend ... we are looking forward to seeing you in August ...

It wasn't THAT dirty.
Doctor just said that if I'm not better by tomorrow they will do another catscan to see if an abcess has formed where the appendix was.
White count is down, which is good, but temp is still up.

Hi Guys,
I'm still here, but I'm feeling much better this morning. MAYBE they'll let me go home today.
BillP came to see me last night, and Ernest (my employer) sent me a steak dinner.
It has been a long three days, but I'm counting my blessings for the doctors who caught it when they did and acted quickly.
Believe it or not, I'm getting tired of watching basketball games.
Later,
DonM

Don:

Sorry you had to endure such an ordeal. The upside is that a few yours ago, your odds would have been much worse. Glad you are okay. Best wishes for a complete and rapid recover. My thanks to HankB for letting us know.

I'm feeling a lot better today. Still pretty sore, but I'm going to drive my golf cart out onto the golf course and watch SemiLive embarrass himself for a couple of holes.
I really do thank everyone for your support.
This little episode make me better appreciate the REAL problems a lot of guys my age are having.
