That was terrific Donny...you sure can sing, and the background was excellent.

Very professional.

Thanx comrades...I'm telling ya playing with the Real KING Don M was a dream & passion I've had for many many years as we are friends for well over 10 years but never met in person.....& to finally Jam along side him was everything I could ever imagine and more...getting of the plane rushing 2 1/2 hrs driving with Joe Ayala to the Jam & sitting down at the S900 kicking it with the boys was AWESOME....it was the start of 3 of the most wonderful days of my musical career. Jammin with Hank B to the country classic "He stopped loving her today" gave me chills....& Joe Lee Richards Pickin right next to me was beyond explanation...meeting so many great musicians, Bill,Hammer Ray,Vince, and many others I cant remember forgive me... & playing is an experience everyone should try to accomplish asap....life is too short my friends....don't sit idle... make things happen!

January 24,25,26,27, 2010 is only 11 months away hope to jam with y'all soon!

As you can tell, I've put some weight back on also. And it's all DNJ's fault.
It seems it's always easier to keep it off in the summer. We have a long, cold winter here, January 28 til way up in February sometimes.
Our friend Bill P.'s situation has gotten my attention. Time to take it off again!
I have a photo of me, HankB, Donny and Joe.
There's no Chinese Buffet in the world that would let us in together.

Bill, I was doing all the playing. DNJ wasn't playing. He kb wasn't even plugged in. And, I'm a ventriloquist also. He was lip-syncing.

We did have a blast! He's the real deal. A lot has to do with his enthusiasm and showmanship.
Let me tell you about a guy who sings and plays circles around both of us: Joe Ayala!

I decided to take the entire month of January off and make another whirlwind tour of the sunny south, including the Jam. As Arnold said "I'll be back!"

Love to have you Bebop, but it's a LONG drive from the Valley. My mother and dad retired there and I made the trip many times before they died.

I'm not certain, but I still may be on the WANTED list in Michigan. I "lost" a rental car there once, back in the 70's.
I was trying to catch a flight and just left it at the airport, in front of the terminal.
I had rented it in Superior, WI. I forgot to call and tell them where I left it.
I got a phone call about three weeks later, asking where it was. I told them I had told the clerk there. I lied.
Imagine doing something like that now. You would be arrested, arraigned and detained!
May also have broken a heart in Grand Rapids.
The picture of the snow will be enough for me, thank you.

What does that mean? Is there some young arranger player in Michigan running around trying to find his 'biological dad'.

I had the same problem in Youngstown and did the same thing. BUT......the windshield and back window were both shot out on the passenger side and the cop stayed with me until I was on the airplane and then He checked the car into Hertz. I have not ever gone back there since.

No, the kid is probably playing a WS, and breaking his DAD'S heart!

Or, even worse, has convinced himself that faking it on 'Rock Band' or 'Guitar Hero' actually IS playing music...

Dikki, none of the ones I know about play anything, even though they went to Yamaha Music School when small.
One of them sings really great, but has no interest in it. One of them had a little interest in guitar, but hasn't pursued it.
However they DO play Guitar Hero!

My condolences...

Coming from a family with absolutely ZERO musical ability (some would say I haven't changed that appreciably ), I can't tell you how envious I am of people that grew up in musical families, and especially of those who watch their kids carry on the tradition, even if not (maybe hopefully not!) at the professional level...

That's what happened to me. My mother was a concert pianist and later played organ in church, so we always had one around.
I took piano lessons for about a year when I was six, then later played trumpet in high school, but all along I was tinkering with the piano or organ. My mother became both proud and jealous, because she couldn't play happy birthday without the music, or memorizing it. I could do it either way, reading or by chord structure. She never could understand.
I exposed my kids to the music and they enjoy listening and singing. Who knows, maybe when they mature some more they'll get back to wanting to play.

One of my real pleasures is my trio, consisting of my oldest son on upright and electric bass and my grandson on drums and me on guitar, vibes and keys. We're playing society jobs now, and the kids are improvcing nicely. Daughter played flute for years but gave it up a long time ago.

Russ ... I've said it before, I really envy you for that (amongst OTHER reasons )...
That has to be a very special bond and enjoyment ...
I've said that I had the occasion to do just a couple of gigs with my son when he played electric bass in high school ... VERY proud moments ...

We always had music in our house ... my mom sang really well and loved all types of music, so we heard Italian opera and folk, big band, country western. the pop singers of that time, etc ...
She would sing as a 'walk on guest' at the local clubs and sang with Lou Monte a number of times... http://www.loumonte.com/

In the mid 50's my two sisters and I would sing 3 part harmony doo-wop ...

As for my my kids, our son quit bass when he went to college, our daughter took piano lessons for about a year ... that's it ...

My wife and I are thinking of 'sponsoring' our grandkids if they want to take up an instrument...

t.

Great music, Donny, what a team!

As far as Don M on guitar in the videos, its good to know that ole Mason still has it in his fingers and if I should fail at my guitar pickin Don M can pick up where I left off. Not bad for someone not used to playing guitar Don. I enjoyed it. But with your fingers beginning to bleed, you did right by laying down the guitar.

Just finished watchin' "LeRoy Brown" and really enjoyed it. Great sounding trio. That sure let's me have a little bitty taste of what I missed... and how much I regret it.

Thanks for sharing. Fantastic. B-T-W... we're gonna just have to get Mason back out on the golf course or buy him a wheelbarrow. He's trying to catch up with me in the pork department... LOL!

Great job, guys... Dave Rice

Rice wrote and recorded a song about me one time, when he lived in Texarkana. I also wrote one about him, "Raising Rice in Texarkana".
