Got an opportunity to buy either one of these mics (I am replacing my AKG D880)..Whats the word from users on SZ as to which they think would be a better choice?

Mid range male vocal...pop, rock, jazz etc etc..

Thanks
Dennis

PS: the bonus with the EV is the L1 already ahs a preset for it

I switched from the Shure SM58 to the EV over 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. It has more gain and clarity than the Shure. It is built like a tank and very reliable. I can't see using anything else right now.

One tip: If you do get the EV, be sure to get it with the on/off switch. Very handy when someone comes up to the stage to talk to you and you don't want to cover the mic with your hand.

I use a Senn 855e and I love it...

The Bose has various mic presets, I know the 855e is in their, I imagine the one your considering would be too...

Good luck-

Dennis,

I have a Sennheiser 855E and Samson Q7 handheld in the office. Both could be placed in the outstanding category. I haven't tried the EV so I can't be of much help on that one.

Good Luck,

Gary

Funny thing, I lost my SM58 or forgot it on a gig, and late last night I did a search of the forum regarding your very question. There are a lot of discussions about mics and it seemed that EV N/D767a was the pick of most of the respondents.
Ciao,
Jerry

Thanks guys...Yes Jerry that was my findings as well.

The shop, (surprise, surprise)..let me take both home overnight and I have to return one this morning (Oz time).

It was very close and BOTH were miles in front of the D880, but with the preset on the L1 for the EV it sounded really good, so that was the one I went with.

Man I never realised how "ordinary" that AKG D880 actually sounded...

Cheers
Dennis

PS: by the by, for those that remember, the L1 is absolutely bloody fantastic. BEST gear I have ever bought!!!

I used a 457 for years, finally wore it out got a 767a last year...

Couldn't be happier...

One thing that is exceptionally good for keyboard players is that the polar pattern is hyper or super-cardiod, rather than cardiod. This means that feedback rejection is better from the side of the mike, where keyboard players' monitors tend to be, rather than cardiod, which really wants to be aimed dead away from the monitor for best feedback rejection.

Killer mike for the money...
