Can anyone give me a laymans step by step of how to properly create a pattern, save it, and then play it back. I followed the Turbo/Quick start guide and had little success. This was the way they explained it:
CREATING A LOOP: (1)Press PERFORM and select PR-A:12 Pop Set 1. (2)Press SEQUENCER, (3) Press REC, then select LOOP=4,MODE=MIX,QNTZ=OFF,CountIn=1, and the desired tempo. (4)Press TRK 10. (5)Press PLAY, wait for count-in, and record drums or whatever. Next I followed the instructions for entitled RPS which said the following: (1)Create a loop recording as shown above.
(2)Press F3:TRK EDIT,then F3:COPY
(3)Cursor to and select PTN 001.
(4)Press F6:EXECUTE
(5)Press SEQUENCER,F1:SETUP,then F4:RPS.
(6)Press the key C4 to assign the Pattern to it.
(7)Cursor to PATTERN and select 001.
(8)Press EXIT,RPS,then press C4 to trigger the pattern.

Okay, I followed all of this to the letter and still my results were confusing. They never said where I was supposed to save my loop (save to disk?).If I just assume that its now a part of PTN 001, is this volatile or is this pattern safe from reboots? I assigned my pattern to C2 and was able to get it to play back, but I experienced problems with 2 other notes on the keyboard having a drum sound when I had switched to play RPS along with a tonal patch. Also, I want to be able to keep the original BASS line sound even when I switch to different patches. For example, if I have a piano sound going, i don't want to hear a piano bass line, I want to hear the originally recorded Mondo pattern. In a nutshell, all I desire is to have the ability to create bass lines and other patterns, so I can call them up in a live situation. This is one of the main reasons i purchased this keyboard but to date I have yet to figure this part out. If there is a kind soul out there who could clear this mystery up for me, I would so greatly appreciate it.

Don't despair. RPS isn't that difficult. Your post is a little confusing to me, but maybe tomorrow I can get to it more in detail.

"They never said where I was supposed to save my loop (save to disk?)."

Once you record a pattern (whether or not you also assign it to a key in RPS), it's part of the internal song. You must save the song to disk to save it; internal song memory is volatile. So just name the song and save it; your pattern will be in the song file, which you then reload into the internal song memory of the sequencer.

"if I have a piano sound going, i don't want to hear a piano bass line, I want to hear the originally recorded"

It sounds like you haven't assigned patches to your performanced parts. You must do so either with bank select messages at the beginning of your song, or by using Song + Sound as your save method. I know the bank-select procedure is explained in Roland's Supplemental Notes; the Sound + Save method presumably is as well. If you can't find an explanation, come back and we'll talk about it.

By not assigning patches in one of these two ways at the beginning of your song, your patterns will play whichever patch you call up into that channel. That is, if your pattern is recorded on MIDI channel, whichever patch you currently have on MIDI channel 3 will be played by that pattern. You have to dedicate a certain patch to a certain channel, and then dedicate (record) your pattern on that channel. Then, for your next part, move on to a different channel and patch assignment.

"I desire is to have the ability to create bass lines and other patterns, so I can call them up in a live situation"

Again, don't despair; this is easy. We'll get you there. Try looking through Roland's supplemental notes and your manual concerning the two things mentioned above, then see what you can do. The turbo-start will work, but you *do* have to set your song up, assign patches, etc. if you're going to do more than one pattern. And you have to save your song in the appropriate fashion is you are to retrieve what you've recorded.

Good luck.
