Hello Everyone,
Here’s a fairly innocuous question; what music related magazines/periodicals does everyone read regularly? I’m letting the subscriptions to my news magazines run out and want to replace them with information I can actually use. Thanks.
Ciao,
Jerry

I used to subscribe to Keyboard, Electronic Musician, and Sound on Sound...

Cancelled them all.

Half the people they interview I haven't heard a single track of theirs, most of them can't play (but love twiddling knobs!), and most of the gear they review is for trance, hiphop and electronica. I can find out nearly 99% of what is useful in the mag from going online, why waste my money?

I still read the studio's copy of Mix, though!

Yep, I was much like Diki...mainly Keyboard and Electronic Musician...cancelled them years ago, ever since I've been on line.

No need for magazines any more...I used to look forward to each new issue, but the content changed, and no longer interested me...plus there was an overabundance of advertising.

Sound On Sound, simply because of the awesome tech stuff you can learn, and the odd good review.
And occasionally Keyboard (the USA version) the UK version is way overpriced imo.

I'm a charter subscriber to Keyboard, so I pretty much stick with it out of loyalty. It has changed formats recently and is trying to reach out to older players (+30) and have even posted some arranger ads and reviews.

Used to subscribe to Electronic Musician, but its content doesn't interest me anymore.

The British Keyboard magazine is really pretty damn good, but way too expensive here in the States.

I like to get catalogs, especially Sweetwater, Sam Ash, Musicians Friend and B&H Photo. That helps me keep up with products and prices. And of course the internet is always packed with info. Try www.sonicstate.com

Used to subscribe to Sound-On-Sound, and Future Music.
Cancelled S-O-S 1st, as at the time Future Music seemed to cover all my needs (and it came with a CD).
It also seemed to want to get the reader involved, and would feature readers demos, so you could hear how people used the gear they had.
However, it started getting too software based for my liking. Most of the 'artists' you never heard of (and never heard of again) most of the tracks supplied by said 'artists' sounded like a cat walking across a keyboard, the readers demos seemed to get forgotten (or more likely they where more musical and would highlight how bad the 'artists' track was), and about 2 yrs after cancelling S-O-S, I called it a day on Future Music.

Every now and then, I will buy S-O-S, if an article catches my eye, and to keep in touch with the gear. I'm currently in the market for an audio interface, so the adverts do have there uses.
S-O-S took over another mag I would occasional buy, Music Mart. It was more performace / PA /lighting based.
This is now know as 'Performance Musician', and again, if I see something that I might find useful, I'll buy it.

Many have also referenced the British mag, KEYBOARD PLAYER, great but expensive.

I have subscribed to Making Music Magazine.

It is a "general interest" music magazine that covers all aspects of playing, and is not too Technical.
