Do you want USB2, Firewire, or PCIe?

How many ins and outs do you want?

What OS are you running? What DAW? What processor?

Do you want to run VSTi's eventually? (BIG issue, here)

Do you have a mixer with good pre-amps?

All of these need answers before any reply is more than a guess...

I am using the Echo audiofire 4, for both midi and audio on a toshiba dual core lappy 1.8ghz with 2 gig ram thru Sonar Producer 7.

The Echo doesn't have the "bells and whistles" of some of the others but it DOES deliver superb audio through clean A/D-D/A's and smooth super sounding pre's on the mic ins..

Not sure what they are as I don't really care because they sound so good, but if anyone is interested I can find out

I tried everything to install the driver on my laptop. I wanted to use the sound engine of the G-70, and my notation programs. They simply don't recognize the driver. I called tech support and got the latest driver, same thing. It is a computer thing, as it installs on my Pc.

Speaking of interfaces, a question from a midi challenged old guy; I am using my Receptor(VST computer) with a Ketron SD2 module in my band gig. I had been using two controllers and separate midi cables, no problem.

I want to cut down on set up, and use my Axiom 61 alone, and control both by using different zones and channels. Since the Receptor has a midi thru, I tried daisy chaining. The problem is I have to switch off the SD2 when I play the B4II program on the Receptor. I know that two different discreet ports would solve the problem, but I am unable to use my MidiSport, as I am unable to tell the Receptor to use port A, and the SD2 to use port B like I can with a Windows pc.

Miden

The Echo Audiofire interfaces look very good, i checked them out, but since I already have a midi interface I just want to get a simple audio one around the $100.00 range.

I checked out the Edirol UA-1EX, the one Fran mentioned, and although it looks good for the price, I didn't like the mike input set up. I want to try and stay with an XLR input.

I've been reading some good reviews on the Line 6 Toneport UX1 for about $90.00. I may end up with that one. I'll see.

Thanks

Bernie I had a similar problem on my laptop..the problem was a limitation of XP for midi drivers..I deleted a couple I do not use and bingo ..the G70 driver installed and was useable...Try to eliminate a driver or two..I removed my Sonic Cell driver and my Juno G driver[need either]..and all was fine..

Cannot select the G-70 device
Was the driver installed correctly?

Have you installed several MIDI devices?
Windows XP/2000 place a limitation on the number of MIDI devices that can be installed. Even changes from one USB port to another count as “MIDI device installations”. If the limit is exceeded, you cannot use the device even though it may have been installed correctly. This is due to the limitations of the OS. It is not a driver problem.
You may be able to achieve normal operation by uninstalling

I use the Edirol via my G70 ..it has a great XLR/preamp...I also use my Mackie board with great results..

The Edirol UA-1EX will turn any mixer into a decent USB mixer..

Are you saying the Edirol UA-1EX has an XLR input for a mike? Everything I've read or seen about it on the internet does not show or talk about an XLR. They mention an 1/8" mike input.
