Im starting to get into production and got a couple of questions if anyone could help me:

1) Whats a tracker?
2) Is buyin used synths/keyboard a good idea?

A tracker is a music app that works a little different compared to the usual midi-sequencer. You (usually) work with samples, but softsynths are common too these days.

If you're buying really old keyboards, always try out all the knobs and sliders etc. Most of my synths were bought s/h.

No help with the first question (tekminus got it), but as for the second . . .

Like all electronic gear, it's the mechanical devices that wear (hence tek's suggestion you check all the knobs and sliders, though don't forget to check all the keys themselves). The electronic soundsets don't generally wear - if they got it right at the factory, in most cases they'll still be working perfectly 5 years after the keyboard is land-filled.
