The H4 software to do this conversion IS very slow. At LEAST realtime or longer. But I see absolutely no point in using this anyway, as transfer to a computer and conversion there (or preferably, master a little first, THEN convert) is FAR quicker. Not to mention you get your choice of formats (AAC, FLAC, MP3, etc.) to convert to...

I would recommend you record at 44.1 kHz/24 bit to start out with, then convert in the computer... With 24 bit, you can run the levels MUCH lower (peak around -6db) and still have much more detail than a 16 bit recording, without the possibility of an 'over' with it's ugly distortion. Not to mention that if you compress and limit and EQ (or use an all-in-one mastering program like T-Racks) the results will sound better starting with a 24 bit file...
