I occasionally could use some monitors with my Tyros 2. I will not even consider the one Yamaha made, as I don't want to carry a sub just to be able to use the satellites.

I have heard that the MS16 and MA8 are actually the same thing, just the brand name change. Any word on that?

Also wondering about the MA12.

I realize the Roland's are out of production, but I'm interested if anyone has compared them, how they sounded, if they would be adequate for monitors, and if I should get the Tyros 2 satellite mounts, are they light enough to work in that situation?

I occasionally consider the 3000 or the S900, but the sound is going up while I sit and I'm not sure I would really benefit from that. Also, I'd loose my 3-layered voices etc, which make quite a difference with the stuff I like to play.

On the other hand, maybe just facing the speakers backwards towards the wall would take care of it. I tried that once, but, since I was in front of open windows, you know the rest of the story.

Thanx in advance.

Scott

I own a pair of MA-8's. They were always a great-sounding set of speakers until I loaned them out. Now only the power channel works. I don't clearly remember the MA-12's, so I won't comment, but the 8's were good for a small room and in-your-face listening. I would say the 8's are far less powerful than a CM-30, but here we go again. Try the 8's if you can, maybe they will do the job for you.

From what I can find, the MA-12 was a single unit, the MA-8 was a pair with one as a satellite. The Behringer MS-16 seems to be a clone of the 8. Both Rolands came in white or black. There is a pair of MA-12 on ebay right now.

Behringer's marketing strategy is copy cat...and No.. they are not the same, as all their copy products are not the same..

They have lost several suits..especially to Roland [Boss pedals are an example]..

I'm always looking for home monitors too. Given that I keep the keyboard in the open plan living/dining room appearance is a priority too.

The CM30s are too large for that application.

Your post, when I folowed the ebay link also identified the Edirol Ma-7 and MA-15. I must say they are cool looking with the wood panels at the side. Reminiscent of the new PA2X? Has anyone auditioned them ?

The MA-7 and 15 powered monitors look very nice. I would think the MA-7 is similar to the MA-8. Since the MA-15 is a stereo pair, they can't be identical to the MA-12, but the Roland site does give specs for comparison. http://www.roland.com/products/en/MA-15D/brochures.html

Hi Scott......I can't comment on the Roland MA8 or 12 for that matter, however I can state with my honest opinion that the Behringer MS16's are GREAT....the sound if fantastic...they are lightweight and small but pack a BIG punch....and the price difference is an added bonus....I've used mine with both the T1 and T2...I bought mine last year for a total of about $60 w/shipping....here is the link http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/014803.html Scott, you can't go wrong with these speakers......enjoy.

Thanx for the info.

Tony, I'm glad to hear such a great review by someone like yourself. I have used Behringer products and was always impressed in a very positive way. There are a number of people on the forum that use them and give positive reviews also. It seems the only negative things I hear are from people that don't even use Behringer products.

I am tempted the most to try out the Behringer out of all the choices so far because they are current, small and light and I suspect take care of the occasional time that I would want to use monitors.

Tony, do you use the speaker brackets on the T2?

Best
Scott
