Got a problem with my mike picking up thumps from hiting the keys. Did'nt have this problem with my ol 9k sitting on the same stand with attached boom. I've tried adjusting the Eq till I'm blue in the face, and tried a wind screen. Only way I found is to take out the bass and mid, but then I sound like "Alvin" I've tried different mikes,Although most are antiques, but the one I've been using for the past couple years is a Samson and worked great until I plugged it into the TY2. Maybe new Mike??/Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I fiddled with the compressor also, and just can't get a good setting on the mike without the booming being picked up by the mike......Help.......Pose

I don't understand the problem. I'm running a mike into my T2 and I'm using a Qick Loc mounted Mike stand mounted to my dbl-tier Qick loc stand and I have NO problems with any Microphone I use. Please describe your setup in more details so we have more info.

That shouldn't be happening.

Two suggestions:
1 - Make sure the mic is completely isolated from the keyboard. Ie: not even the mic stand should be touching the board.

2 - Make sure to use a cardiod mic (ie directional) - which you probably are using anyway, and point it up at your mouth and away from the board.

Hope it helps,
Chony

Al:
I' using a samson cardoid mike, quicklock boom, and it is attached to the stand.
T2 is on the L7 stand, I made a adapter that fits on the stand (goes between the board and the stand and is bolted on using wing nuts) this has a 7/8 in. heavy duty tubing that the quick loc mic boom attaches to. this does not come in contact with the keyboard. it's has about 3/4" clearence from it. The rubber pads on the L7 are not very thick, and before I made the orig post here I tried 4 pieces of 1/4" felt on top of these pads to further insulate it.

I can't understand what going on, there was no problem with the 9000 setting on this stand, and just removing it and connecting the T2 now it sounds like the mike gain is wide open, but vocal amplification is normal. Tried several mikes, Nady, 2 shures, and a yamaha, and another samson.

Chony:

I have pretty well done what you mentioned, but It's got my stumped..

I don't want to buy a new mike and find out it does the same thing...????

My gut feeling is its not the mike or mike mounting, but something in the settings, it seems to be as if the gain is wide open to The point you could speak into the vents on the front and it should be amplified...

The vocals sound about normal volume.

The gain control next to the mike plug in is set at about 10 o'clock. the mike volume is set at 80 thru/out and the volume knob is turned to 3 o'clock. and showing a normal green light flashing on when used.

Any Ideas.....Anyone.......Pose

If you are using a Samson R11, it has a tremendous amount of bass proximity effect. For a deep voice, the bass MUST be rolled off significantly. Samson Q7 isn't like that at all. They are the only two I've used.

You may want to try isolating the keyboard from the stand. Sometimes those rubber end caps on the upper tier do not make full contact with the keyboard and thus the board is resting on the metal itself. Perhaps making a custom isolator would help if nothing else works?

Just a thought.

Yeh its a samson r11 worked good with the 9000 I did have to take some bassiness out of it, totally went nuts on the T2.

spent about 2 hours fooling with the mic settings last evening, ended up with lower volume settings, then cranked the volume up on the balance setting on the bottom of the main screen. This helped some. Just went and tried it this morning darned thing is quiet, This t2 is gonna be a big challenge for me, It just don't make any sense, although, It's gotta be me. It would "quit" just after I bought Donny's sennheiser, oh well I needed a better mike anyway. most of my mikes are from the fifties, and then there's the three new ones I bought for buy two get one free..he he.

Thanks guys for giving a hand I guess its okay (no more booming and thud's) probably will do it again when I least expect it...

It's great to have others to lean on. Think I hear some bells twinkling....It's a good life...Merry Christmas ol Bailey.....Pose

The Sennheiser totally blows the R11 away, at least for my voice. I keep a couple of R11s for guest mics, because they are really inexpensive and sound good, once you e.q. them right. They are especially good for female voices.
When it's important, I plug two Senn 855s into the SD1. Mine goes through the vocal harmony, the other does not. If if I have a guest singer that is more than just a one-song sit-in, it's easier to get levels and e.q. right by using identical mics.
Of course if you use an external mixer, all these problems go away!

You got me anscious to try the sennheiser, when it gets here. I have a small mixer, but really don't want any more cables to fool with than what I got now, hopefully this will work. I think maybe I just discovered the problem, I use a mfc-10,and for some reason I can't get the t2 to save it right, It had partially dropped out and was doing weird things, I probably initialised or something, and caused it to change. Hopefully I can find a way to keep this saved even when initialising.

If I have anymore problems with the mike booming, I'm gonna use some liquid rubber and coat everything under the keyboard that comes in contact to it. Yamaha did'nt make the ty2 to fit the L7 stand, it works but setting on nonreinforced areas, I think that is part of the problem, when the guarantee expires, I'm gonna beef it up with some thick soft plastic. I really like the tyros2 and am having a ball with it, but probably my last yamaha product, I'm tired of having to fix everything that I've bought from them, but then it seems like now days everything comes half finished...I need to live next door to Gary..

Your right on about the samson's I got 3 of them in a package deal a few years back when I bought a yam 660 pa for the stage in my music room, The gals just love'em it makes them sound great, but if you crank them up they'll pick up footstep noise from the floor. never had one squeel or feedback with all kinds of instruments behind them, they're perfect for talented male competing singers..he he
