Very worthy. It has better sounds, more realistic styles and is of sturdier construction. Mic preamp is better, although the Vocal Harmony is quite primitive. (The mic preamp on the 740 really isn't of good enough quality to use professionally).
It also has two sequence players and will accept a hard drive.
The PA's weak points (in my opinion) are that the fills and intro/endings are weak and the Break is not useable. The Operating System takes longer to learn. If you play much Country/Western, you will have to import or make some styles. However, ALL factory styles can be edited and/or completely replaced with your own.
The PA sounds like a band; the 740 sounds like a recording of a band.
The PA has a joystick; the 740 has wheels.
You can fully edit sounds on the PA. The 740 does have an extremely "neat" Groove function that just about doubles the number of styles.

I agree with what Don says. I went to the PA80 while I still had my 740. The PA80 has a bigger learning curve, and part of that is that the PA80 has more features and edit capabilities. Play the PA80 side by side with the 740 ( if your music store still has one ) or side by side with it's successor, the PSR2000, and see for yourself. The 2000 itself is a nice upgrade over the 740, because of the additional features, but overall it doesn't sound a whole lot different than the 740 did unless you start editing the voices.

Considering that you've already heard the PA-80 and play the 740, if I were in your shoes, and especially if I played a fair selection of country music, I would wait to see what the PSR-2100 sounds like. I too have a couple 740s, but also have a pair of 2000s--and IMHO there's no comparison between the two--even when tuned.

Good luck,

Gary

Hello Pooky. If your object is to expand your style capabilities, then you might consider getting the psr 2000 and linking to the 740 with midi. The 2000 will play the 740 like a bro and you can combine the best of the two. I have all three boards and the pa80 does have a lot of good stuff and some bad.
