Hi Denis,
The PA80 does not have true linear multisampling capabilities in and of itself. It can only sample or record sounds in the board that can be played back at one pitch, eg. drums. It can however import Korg multisamples ( .KMP files I believe ) and play them in a linear mode ( multiple pitches ). So there is no way to create or record multisamples in the board itself. You'd have to rely on samples created on a Triton.
Worse yet, it requires a "special" flash card that can only be obtained from Korg. The card works a certain way and noone on the PA80 forums has had any success in using any other cards. The "korg" flash cards are retailing at approx 160 to 200 USD for an 8 mb card. I had hoped for true sampling features before 3.0, but Korg would not publicly commit that they were even going to include any sampling in the update, so I was not expecting much. I guess for some of the dance / electronica oriented musicians, the sampling feature would be nice, but I think the majority of the people on the PA80 forum have said that they may not bother to obtain the cards.
On a positive note, if Fabio and a couple of the other contributors are working half as hard on making or obtaining the KMP files as they have making styles and user performances ( registrations in korg speak ), there will likey be a ton of these multisamples available. Some of the styles that Fabio made or converted sound as good or nearly as good as the internal styles. I have always had at least one kind of PSR board or another for at least the past 5 years, so I had recently commented on another thread that I missed having a PSR series board if for nothing else the styles, but last night I started using some of the styles that Fabio converted and / or made from scratch and ya know what? Suddenly, I'm not missing the PSR line quite as much anymore.
Fabio has probably helped Korg sell more than a few of these boards, and he has been a tremendous ambassador for the PA80. Several of us think that maybe Korg should find a place on their payroll for him, much in the way Ketron has obtained the services of Ketron AJ.
