I'm going to be buying my first keyboard shortly and i've seen a lot of brand names: roland, yahama, casio, and korg. I want to spend around $100-$120, but if I have to I could spend $150. It would need to have recording capabilties, which I mean it needs to be able to hook up to my small digital 8 track recorder. Thanks

To get any kind of good reasonable keyboard, you need to spend at least $200-300 like CASIO WK3000 that is highly regarded by many in this forum - it is a good keyboard that will entertain most people even the pros. The cheap keybds that are unexciting will get you bored FAST. Print out all those pages and go to Guitar Center store which will match any advertised prices. Try out those keyboards and bring one home and if you do not like it return it in 30 days and get another one. The key is the 30day moneyback is a MUST for anyone buying a keyboard.

I agree that your price range isn't going to bring you a quality instrument. The sounds may be OK, but the features will be sorely lacking. Unfortunately, $300 is a minimum for some of the next tier features. I've seen some good clearance items in January. GC (Guitar Center, aka Musician's Friend) is selling the Roland EM15/25 for less than $300. Actually, Sam's Club may have a Yamaha or Casio left over form the holidays to clear out. Get the BEST you can afford. If you go to a music store, you might be able to locate a bargain and negotiate a price.

If you're going to hook up to an 8 track digital recorder, I strongly suggest a keyboard that has L and R output! Headphone jacks don't cut it when using digital recorders.. As other members mentioned you might want to look at something like the Casio WK3000. I'm not sure if that has L and R output though. The reason I say that about the output is because you'll really notice a degration--if that's even a word of sound quality. I have a PSR-550 and it uses the headphone jack as output. I have a Zoom MRS-4 digital 4 track, and the sound really goes down hill when you use a keyboard that uses the headphone jack for the output..
