Steve,
I can't figure this one out. Why is the Tyros pdf manual password protected? When one wants to offer some support to others and copy and paste a manual quote in a post the pdf won't allow to copy. Of course I figured a work around to be able to do it anyway.

I just can't figure out why Yamaha would need to pass protect this?

Terry, if all else fails tell someone where they can get a copy of the manual (it's freely downloadable, at least I didn't have any trouble getting it) and then give them the page and paragraph where the info is.

Tomcat,
Of course that's another workaround. I just can't come up with a reason in my head why they would not allow copy and paste especially as you have pointed out it is freely downloadable to all.

If they are afraid someone is going to plaguerize it....that doesn't make any sense either, because they certainly could still do that just by retyping the words.

In the final analysis, it is still copyable just a little more difficult to do so.

Terry,

Just like your songs, these manuals are copyrighted. Copy protection is Yamaha's way of saying "Use your own words".

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

Steve,
Thanks for the reply, but isn't the end goal to get users to be able to use the equipment? Since forums like these are doing 90% of the support work for all the companies I would think you would all be more than happy for us to provide the info even out of the freely downloadable manual.

Mike,
That was part of my point in the original post is that there is a workaround so what's their point.

Whether or not it matters to me personally is not the issue. But it is copyrighted material, so officially I have to say, please don't copy it.

To Yamaha, it's like locking your door. Everyone knows that a good burglar can get past any door, but the simple/prudent thing is to lock your door.

No one is trying to frustrate your attempts at being helpful. The copyright isn't about your scenario at all. It's about people who would copy whole sections of it for use in their publications which they would then sell it for profit.

Everyone appreciates what goes on at site like this... Especially me!

This site is all about making music without headaches. Have fun guys!

Steve,
OK, I accept that and the further expanation makes sense as far as bulk copying.
thanks,

Mike, I removed that link to the the Tyros manual simply to respect Yamaha's copyright on the material. It is to Yamaha's credit that they actually make their manuals available electronically which is much more than most other keyboard manufacturers do, so I'd prefer not to endanger this service by causing legal problems that would make them question their decision to do this.

Hi Nigel

From what Steve is saying, ie., that it doesn't apply to our situation (scenario) at all here on the Forum, - correct me if I'm wrong Steve - I assume he meant that what I posted (a cut from the Tyros manual) was okay with him and Yamaha. He didn't tell me to personally delete that post or I would have. I think being able to post helpful step by step instructions from the Tyros Manual to those here on the Forum that aren't able to access a Tyros Manual for some reason would be, well... helpful.

Best regards,
Mike
