I get quite a few requests for links to be added to Synth Zone listings, that is nothing new. But once in a while I hear from a manufacturer who is so confident about their product they want to send me a sample to try out.

J.R. Baker has a company that makes seats for musicians. http://www.soundseat.com He called me on the phone and spoke with me today and is sending me one of his seats that is suitable for keyboard players. I will definately check it out and let you know how it is. He told me that until recently they had been concentrating more on seats for guitarists and drummers but now are producing them for keyboardists.

This one is of particular interest if you Gig:
Break Down Gas Lift Seat
For touring drummers, keyboard players, sound techs

$225.00
(plus $30 S&H)

Seat with bag $325
(plus $35 S&H)

Break Down Gas Lift Seat

They're asking $100 for the Bag which is way too much IMO. Looks like it would be a good seat though. There is no mention about their weight. Also, if you buy one you will have missed the 10% discount that ended December 24th. Might be a good gift to get next year when they have their sale again.

Thirty some odd dollars is $30 some odd dollars (as apposed to buying at the discount rate) but hey if you need one now it looks to be a good seat looking at the pictures. One hesitation after looking over them is if they would be sturdy enough. The metal pole (shaft) looks a little thin if you ask me. At least in the pictures they do. And you know what they say; a picture is worth a thousand words. If you do get one the most important decision I suppose would be whether to get the one with Casters or the one with Gliders? I think the Gliders would be the best choice for me but it's hard to say without testing them first. I'm not sure if the Breakdown one even comes with sliders or glides. Which leads me to the question: Mail Order Only or are there Stores that carry them? I'd for one would want to demo them first before deciding which one is best suited (if at all) for me. Okay guys, who's going to be the first guinea pig? If they receive positive feedback and adulation from a fellow SZ member that should spark a lot of interest from other members. But to try it out first hand before considering whether to purchase it or not is really optimal. For me at least.

Best regards,
Mike

Mike,
That seems extremely expensive for a seat. Additionally, it doesn't seem to be nearly as high quality as the one that Donny Pesce just purchased for half the price. Donny says his butt sure appreciates it at the end of a four-hour gig.

Cheers,

Gary

Gary, I think the price for the seat would actually be a fairly reasonable one IF it is the cat's meow and built to last. In fact it should have at least a 10 year warranty if they are going to charge that much. But the bag costing $100? Way too much IMO. It should be alligator skin or imported Leather for that price. And on top of that it should have a lifetime warranty.

Best regards,
Mike

The TAMMA SUMO wide Rider Throne is twice the thickness and super dense foam. I have never sat on anything better giggng nightly...especially for half the price.

Hi dnj,
I couldn't find any specs on that Tama drum throne, so what is the maximum height it can be set at, and is there any 'wobble' at max. height?
Because my wife is standing out front singing lead vocals and is 5'8" tall, I like to keep my seat and keyboard fairly high so that, presentation-wise, we look roughly on the same level. Thanks.

Just so you know J.R.'s background. He is a drummer and has played with many prominent musicians and found the drum seats that were available were uncomfortable for long sessions so he designed a seat that that was comfortable for performing musicians.
