The world has lost legendary jazz keyboardist and synthesizer pioneer Joe Zawinul who played with Miles
Davis and Weather Report.

One of the alltime greats has passed on...

I saw the JZ Experience in New Orleans in 2000. The most challenging, innovative and LOUD act at the whole Jazzfest! Electrifying,,,

Sad news.

Joe will be missed...he was a clever synthesist...he used an inverted keyboard on his ARP and then on his Chroma...pretty cool.

I took the liberty of recording a quick live version of a reversioned (if I can call it that!) old song of Joe's...

It's based on 'A Remark You Made', from Heavy Weather.

It's not the whole tune, just a quick exploration and sad tribute (in many ways!) to one of my favorites. Done in one take, arranger mode (for the purists out there). Lot's of flubs and glitches, and simply improvised.

But I hope Joe don't mind...

I saw Joe with Weather Report on the Heavy Weather tour back in the 70s in Australia. He had Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter and Alex Acuna playing with him .... what an incredible band !!!!!!

I sure didn't mind, Diki. Very refreshing to hear something different from the usual SZ repertoire.

Thx
