The rumors were right. Yamaha is showing the new new PSR-S700 and PSR-S900 at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt today. Look here:

Messe-Impressionen

Select the second picture in the Keyboards Gallery. Hopefully Yamaha will upload more information and pictures later today.

Kind regards,
Tommy

Darn, got faked out by a title again. I quickly clicked on this post fully expecting to see a very large-breasted woman.

There is another pic of Martin Harris playing the S900 from the same site, but for some reason it is in the Synthesizer section.

The PSR-S900 and PSR-S700 will NOT have aftertouch.

Just done a quick scan of the web - looks like the S900 will have 24 SA voices, and according to one site, will retail at 1949 Euros.

Isn't that close to the price of a tyros II?
or did I convert that to US dollars wrong.

it works out at around £1300 - £1400 GBP. This may be the RRP - after retailer discounts, it should be the same price as the PSR 3000, or thereabouts.

My sources tell me the PSR-S900 will be the same as the PSR-3000.

Looks like the screen is the same as the 3000 and confirmed to have the same resolution (320x240). Also looks like the screen is fixed and can't be positioned like the Tyros.

Dimensions of the S900 as follows:

100.2cm (W)
43.2cm (D)
14.4cm (H)

compared to the 3000:

97.3cm (W)
39.9cm (D)
16.7cm (H)

no word on the weight of the S900 yet.

So much for my custom hard case for the 3000. In any case I probably won't be upgrading until the next model anyway. I'm still getting "into" the 3000 at this point.

If the S900 turns out to be a significant upgrade from the 3000, I might be interested in selling or trading my Tyros 2. Although the T2's a great board, I miss the internal speakers from my old 3000 and its smaller size, which fits better in my cracker box studio. If the overall sound and styles are close to the T2, that's good enough for me, especially if the styles are polished, useful, and professional-sounding.

The PSR 3000 was pretty pretty much as close as possible to the Tyros1 when it came out... this will probably be the same case with the S900 to the T2. same kind of styles/sounds except the key feel/aftertouch and not as good DSPs...

I just hope the S900 introduces brand new styles that are not on the T2 like the PSR 3k did... and then we can just import them into our T2 and everyones a winner!!!

2 more pics of the S900 have been added to the Yamaha Frankfurt site. One (under the News sention) shows Michel Voncken playing the S900. The other (under the Fair Impressions section) shows visitors trying the S700 and S900.

Looks like Yamaha are going to keep teasing us with photos, but no full specs yet. How I wish I was there right now!

Just received confirmation from Yamaha that the PSR-S900/700 will be available to purchase in the UK from June/July this year No word on the US shipping dates, although I think Ian said it should be early Fall. Expect official and full specs to be released by Yamaha in May/June. Hopefully more details will emerge prior to then from dealers.

There is a "dealers only" showing of the PSR-S900/S700 mid April, here in Canada...many more details will be available at that time...perhaps even before.

I have an S900 on order...no idea of price, but I expect it will be the same as the 3k.

I believe James' guess of May/June release may be accurate...still no official word from Yamaha as of today.
