I got word today from Yamaha USA of 4 new model Yamaha keyboards with official prices.
The PSRS900 will retail at $1999 with a MAP price of $1599. Available in June.
The PSRS700 will retail at $1299 with a MAP of $999.
The PSRor700 will be a new middle eastern model with a retail price of $1599 and a MAP of $1299.
And the 4th new model is the MP30, which is a 76 semi weighted action with natural grading. Yamaha showed this to me at the NAMM show in January as a prototype. I was very impressed. It is extremely light, has built in speakers, runs on batteries or AC power, has some other sounds besides piano, and the action felt nice, all for a MAP price of $299.00!!!!!!
Most of you already know specs from what's been posted from the trade show in Germany last month.
More to follow!

WOW S-900 with a MAP of $1599!!! Ohhh that's really tempting Not a bad price for a "Baby Tyros".... It's even impressive that with the additions to the S-700 the MAP is still $999. Yamaha did make a few changes on these models that I actually like...

Mo,
I got the call from Yamaha today and I was able to order mine. On the first shipments, Yamaha usually allocates. Yes, I usually get some sooner because of my relationship with Yamaha as a portable keyboard dealer that supports the line as I do and for my giving my input to yamaha from time to time regarding design and marketing ideas.
My friends from Yamaha came out to my store last month to show me the new PSRor700 middle eastern model to get my opinion on styles and sounds. I can tell you I was really impressed. Knowing that this is what the 700 and 900 will look like and sound like, I was really happy.
Until I ordered today, I also thought that August was supposed to be the release date for the first shipments, but the date in their computers showed as early as June. I hope they are right.

Rats...! Yamaha FINALLY go 76 again, and it's a $299 toy (OK, OK, but what do you THINK you are going to get for $299? )

But hey, this might be light enough for Mo.... (just kidding, Mo You know it's in fun...!)

But still, kind of sad to see Yamaha miss out on the sales that a 76 note T2 might generate....

Talking to Yamaha at the Blackpool keyboard Festival UK where the S900 was played in concert and also demonstrated, the release date is end June/early July in the UK.
As usual I bought up the subject of 76 notes, and as usual the reply was the same, Yamaha has researched their intended market of arranger keyboards (Home Users) and there is not enough demand for a 76 note version.
So don’t expect one anytime soon.

minimum advertised price (MAP)

Minimum advertised price (MAP) is the practice of restricting pricing at the consumer level. Price fixing agreements are illegal in many countries when members and terms in the agreement match predefined legal criteria. Fixed pricing established between a distributor and seller or between two or more sellers violates antitrust laws in the United States. A minimum advertised price policy between a distributor and seller is acceptable as long as it is referring to the advertised price and not the selling price.[citation needed] This does not affect a single manufacturer setting the price on a "take it or leave it" basis

I left out the fact that the MP30 is not an arranger keyboard but instead a really nice sounding digital piano. The sound I heard was really good. There are no styles on this portable piano. I'm sorry I neglected to include this informatin on my first post. It was very late at night when I wrote it.

I have a question.... If the new PSR models are to be released in early June.., taking into consideration today is May 16th, why in the hell hasn't Yamaha put them up on the US site yet? Early June is only a few weeks away.

Well they need to snap to it "chop, chop!"... I haven't yet decided on the S-900 or the S-700. Some "actual" info on the US site with full specs and possibly a few demos would be nice I've got a space cleared for (one) of them, just need to look at the manuals (voice lists), blah, blah, blah.

You are seriously considering a Yamaha arranger? What about the drums?

Starkeeper,
Although the drums aren't the best on the PSR's, I don't think I'd find too much of an issue with them for what I plan to use the keyboard for.

I have no intentions of using it for anything "modern" like hip hop ect. I've got my synth for that. However, I'd use it for more traditional work. It would be used heavily for orchestral/classical, instrumental, and film score styles. I'll of course tweek the livin crap out of it to see how far I can push the tone generator. If Yamaha allowed tweeking of individual instruments within the drum kits on the S-900 I'd be tickled pink ... However, they'll be more than acceptable for what I plan to use the board for....

So it's gonna be either the S-700 or S-900. I could buy the S-700, then take the money I'd save on that compared to the 900's price and use the difference to purchase that new digital piano of Yamaha's (I think it's the NP-30 or something like that).

George is it safe to assume the keybed is similiar to the 76 key YPG models? Are the keys not semi-weighted?

What does graded mean?
I thought it only applied to hammer action pianos.

The keys do feel like the DGX525 and DGX225 model keyboards. I'm not a piano player, but graded has to do with how hard you need to play the keys on the lower end of the keyboard to make the sound of the piano be loud compared to having to play the keys on the upper range, which requires less strength to have these keys play loud. This has to do with the length and number of strings on a real grand piano. On a real piano, the hammer strikes the strings and therefore this natural grading effect occurs and on a digital piano, this effect is manufactured into the action of the keys.

It's very cool that even "if" they're similiar to the keys of the DGX series--this new model has "graded action" keys. That feature itself--even though on a non-weighted model--is usually found on more expensive units.

I'm blown away that this unit is 76 graded piano style keys and runs on AA batteries Still don't like that Yammie charges you an extra bone or two just to plug the bloody thing in though... Oh well for $299 it's still a great deal, and you could find an adapter elsewhere to fit (and) probably for less than the Yamaha power supply...

Boy this summer my set up will be nice. It will consist of my current Roland RS-70, soon to be added Roland Fantom X6 (yeah baby!), either the PSR-S700 or the 900 (still have to decide on which one), and the money left over will be used to buy the Yamaha NP-30.

If this set up doesn't keep me busy for a while my wife will surely see to it that I "sleep with the fishes"....
