Here is an example of the above noted violin for those who have not checked the Garritan web site: http://www.garritan.com/Strad/OrangeBlossomSpecial.mp3

was that played on a controller/keyboard, or preprogrammed? It sounded just too perfect.

Bachus, it was played on a keyboard using the Garritan Strad. Violin samples. Yes this is a top of the line virtual acoustic instrument. Similar quality can be acquired for most acoustic instruments, pianos, brass, sax, epianos, organs, guitars, etc. It is just very expensive. EW Orchestral or VSL libraries can be in the thousands of dollars....but they sound good.

Hi Frank,
that sounds awesome.

I'm tossing up between Garriton's Personal Orchestra & Garriton's Big Band.

I think the Orchestra version will run on my current 512mb laptop ( barely ) wheras Big Band says it require 1 gig memory.

Would you happen to know if the 1 gig is required even if I only want to load 1 or 2
instruments at a time from the Big Band version?? ie is 1 gig a basic requirement regardless of how many instruments I want to load??

Eitherway, I'm getting a new (music) laptop in the next couple of weeks or so with additional memory ( 2 gigs , I hope), I don't trust my current laptop , not to break down again, so I don't want to waste money upgrading it's memory.

I'll probably end up getting both Garriton's, one at a time.

I would prefer to get the Big Band vers. but if I can't run it till I get my new laptop, I'd sooner get the Personal Orchestra & use it straight away ( even in a limited way).

best wishes
Rikki

Rikki, the more memory the better. In fact, Garritan prefers you not use direct from disk streaming and load all of the instruments into RAM. If you only have 512mb of RAM then loading fewer instruments may be necessary. It should work. In my case I do use direct from disk streaming and I have no problem loading 8 instruments into kontakt some of which are JABB. As you know my computer has 2GB of RAM and things work well & fast.
