HI,

I'm in Canada and i just ordered a Tyros2. I want to add a harddisk to save samples (WAV files) and do recording sessions.

External USB harddisk are cheaper than internal 2.5 inches drives. So, my question is: I know that we can plug a USB external drive, but can we use an external USB drive to do recording session?

And for the USB, is it USB version 1.1 or 2.0 that is included in the Tyros2.

Thank's for your answer,
Serge

No, using the T2's audio recording capabilities only works with an internal harddrive. And understand also that not all external USB devices are guaranteed to work with the T2. I have a very sweet Venus DS3 External Enclosure (USB) in which I had hoped to mount a used external harddrive for T2 internal drive backups. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with the T2. And, as for the T2's USB ver -- it is 1.1.

Given that external USB drives use slimline 2.5" ATA hard disc units, and the T2 internal hard disc (if I read the manual correctly) is a slimline 2.5" ATA hard disc units.... how can the external unit be cheaper if it is the same capacity.

I suppose if you are going to get the internal hard disc from yamaha or a music store then it's going to be more expensive, but my reading of the Tyros2 manual is that any suitable thickness 2.5" notebook type hard disc will do so I'd go to an internet PC dealer.

I would expect the internal HD to perform better anyhow. I think the Tyros USB is v1.1 (but I might be wrong).

I purchased a Toshiba 60 gig laptop 2.5 in
new for $37.00 and installed it into my T-1
about 7-8 months ago and it works like a charm...some music people wanted to charge me $120.00 for a 12 gig hard drive they said was made for the T-1...check on e-bay
you can go to this link and bid on one... http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZcfidirect
