cubase SX / pro 9000 /midifile : a problem
hello all ,[ happy X mas !]
I have connected my yamaha pro with my pc [ by midi , and by line as well] and I am using cubase XP.
Playing on my 9000 pro and receiving and saving the signals in cubase , is NO problem .
that is working perfect .
to play a midifile in my 9000 pro and to receive the signal in cubase is a really problem !
cubase receives in that way , NO midi signals , there is NO communicating , for the midi indicator in the transport bar as well the indicator in the track list panel is NOT lighting up .
In my pro 9000 I have tried all the different possibilities in MENU/MIDI , but the result was zero .
please who will or can help me ?

Guillermo,
on the back of the pro there is a switch which reads "Midi, PC1, PC2, Mic"; maybe you should adjust the setting to Midi or PC1, depending on how your system is set. The manual says how the different settings work.
Good luck.

Guillermo,

I think song data is transmitted out of the MIDI b port.

Thanks for the advice , but that is NOT the solution of my problem.
At the back side of the pro are indeed the midi connection possibilities .
There are 4 : midi , pc 2 ,pc1 and mac.
I changed them all , but only the MIDI gives a communication with cubase SX.
That means : when I am playing on my 9000 pro .
There is still NO signal when I play a midifile in my pro .
So… is there anybody who has a 9000 pro AND is working with cubase AND have no problems with that sequence program when he “plays” a midifile?

Hello, the Yamaha PSRs/Electones, when you play through their own floppy, they do not transmit in any midi channels, controlers, etc, CLOCK is the only thing......the solution for your problem is to import/open into the PC/cubase the midi file, that way it will transmit it to the Yamaha keyboard.....I hope it helps...

Guillermo,

I was expecting what Mdorantes described, but I'm trying to remember WHY you want to record MIDI-file information THRU your 9000........? (I would not do this ever)

SX has great 'import' options and it is the easiest, shortest way to get the stuff playing.

To be sure : You are not mixing-up STYLE- and MIDI-FILE playback ?

Thank you all for the suggestions.
My problem is solved !
I made a combination of the answers and suggestions of this forum and the german yamaha forum .
I tried it and it was successful.
Here are the solutions :
When you are “playing” a midifile on your keyboard ,there are two possibilities to receive the midi signals in your sequence program [ like cubase sx] on your pc .
1. connect the midi out cable to the “midi out B” [ at the back side of the 9000 pro ] . normally the cable is connected to the “midi out A “when you are playing .
now the sequencer will receive the midi signals in a normal way .
or
2. click on “file” in cubase sx and then at “import” , and then “midi file “.
Now the sequencer also receives the midi signals from your 9000 pro .

Easy when you know it , but that’s like life : experience of others will help you to survive !
