I just got a hold of all the OTS styles that the CVP209 has that the PSR2000 doesn't have. The OTS settings are awesome. I'll try to post them to egroups.

If you use my system of having a plastic container of various colored floppies velcroed to the side of your PSR2000, you can have access to these styles in seconds. After the gig, you can just pull off the container, close the lid, and put it in your gig bag. It's the next best thing to having a hard drive.

I tried out the CVP209 stuff (both with OTS and also the 15 zip file collection w/o OTS). Some nice stuff indeed. As earlier stated by Beakybird, some of the styles are duplicates of the ones already in the PSR2000.

Does anybody have a list of which of the above CVP209 styles are NOT internal to the 2000? I'm sure I could figure it out myself by going over each one 'one by one', but I was hoping someone here might have already done that, and could save me the trouble.

Thanks, - Scott

EXCELLENT ! Thank you Gunnar
Is this perhaps a hint that you may be getting a PSR2000 now too?

I went through the Excel list, and that's how I arrived at the files that I posted to the egroups web site. I just made a couple of errors. The Beguine style already exists, and there is one other. The rest, I'm almost certain are all unique to the CVP209 or are styles that are on the PSR2000 style disk.

Hi Larry: I just checked the CVP209 w/OTS file collection (posted on the Yahoo Groups PSR site) against the Excel Listing. Based on this, the following CVP209 w/OTS styles (styles not already included internally in the PSR2000 or on the floppy diskette which comes with the PSR2000) appear to be missing.

Scottyee,

I guess the list is still incomplete. Together with the CVP209 w/o OTS set I posted in YahooGroups (I was unfortunately requested by Yamaha to delete) I posted also an Excel list, comparing CVP209 and PSR2000 styles. Included is also file size information, to have a better compare not only via the style file name.

Here the link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/yamaha-psr-styles/files/CVP209/CVP209_PSR2000.xls

You mentioned: "Together with the CVP209 w/o OTS set I posted in YahooGroups (I was unfortunately requested by Yamaha to delete)...".

(1) Was this a list YOU compiled or copied from an existing list created by YAMAHA?
(2) If this was YOUR list, does YAMAHA have the right to ask that you take it down? How was this presented to you?

(3) Question to all: I am not really into law at this point but how far can a company 'restrict' postings/information/data on their product? What does the law say about this - if any?

I just want to 'learn' here folks!

Thanks,

AJ

AJ,

sorry for my perhaps confusing sentence. I was NOT requested to delete the Excel sheet, comparing CVP209 styles and PSR2000 styles, I was requested to delete the styles themselves.

The request regarding the styles was presented to me personally from a Yamaha representative. He showed me a letter, addressed to myself, asking for removing the CVP209 and PSR2000 sets from YahooGroups. Unsure about the legal situation at all I agreed to do it.

An anonymous source just provided me with the 15 or so CVP209 OTS styles that were missing from the styles I posted. I will post them immediately. Get them while they are hot.

Hi Larry: Many Thanks AGAIN for coming thru for us all again. WOW! This makes the entire CVP209 collection w/OTS . . . .
well almost . . . yeah, I know you didn't want to hear this . . . but . . .

It seems that the style 'JazzBallad1' was posted by mistake, instead of the intended 'J-Ballad1" style. These are actually two different styles, as 'JazzBallad1' is already included as an internal style in the PSR2000. If you can locate 'J-Ballad1' please let us know. With "J-Ballad', we'll have 'EVERY' CVP209 with OTS file not already included in the PSR2000. By the way, were the OTS settings made by Yamaha or were they setup by your anonymous source?

Yes, J-Ballad1 is still missing from this 3 floppy collection of wonderful styles with OTS settings. I will try to get them, but I can't make any promises.

The OTS were created for the CVP209 and happen to translate well onto the PSR2000. I'm sure that they have a way of defaulting to a different voice when the PSR2000 doesn't have a voice found in a style or in an OTS. That is why the styles and OTSs sound so good.

Larry: I just checked the CVP+OTS #5 zip file you uploaded to the Yahoo Groups site and "J-Ballad2" is actually already included. All we need is the "J-Ballad1" file. BTW - Congratulation on your 'new' baby, and I wasn't speaking of the PSR2000 THIS time

Yes, I'm a dad now!

We just had a baby 3 weeks ago. She is even more fun than my PSR2000.

Now that we have the OTSs to these styles, I'm checking them out more. The Cool8Beat is fantastic. The folk rock would be perfect for "Like a Rolling Stone". There are so many fantastic styles. It's just nice to have the OTSs for them because they would take too long to create even if it were a group project. And this way, we don't have to rely on using registration banks to create OTSs for these styles.
Of course, we can easily edit the OTSs and resave the styles with the new setting. Cool!
I'm really digging the Sweet Soprano Sax on the PSR2000. It is really sweet and soulful the way they created that slow attack on it.

Hi Larry,
first of all, congratulations for your newborn daughter; I know that she will grow up as an happy girl, with all the beautiful music she will hear from you.
I have now a technical question, that I have already asked before, but this time I will try to be more specific: since you mentioned the beautiful Soprano Sax of the PSR 2000, can you or any other Yamaha owner please comment about the similarity between the Sweet Soprano Sax (and others Sweet Voices) in the PSR 2000 and the PSR 9000? I really loved the 9000 woodwinds and organs and I am thinking to add a 2000 to my setup, provided its sounds aren't affected by any "sonic compromise" compared to its big brother.
Thanks in advance,
Andrea

Thank you for the congrats! Yes, it is really a great feeling cuddling with my three-week old daughter.

Dreamer, it is my impression that the PSR2000 has the almost all the sounds of the PSR9000, but there are about 18 voices that aren't there on the PSR2000. The ones that are there are just as good except for the ones that are actually sampled. I really love the way the PSR2000 sounds. And it is half the weight.

And of course I'm among all the members here
who will congratulate the proud father and his
family with the new born girl.
Yeah, the years go fast, and they grow up and
leave the house, but then we get the grand-
children.
Ahhh... life is good!

And so, would you Yam'ies out there please tell
me what OTS means. Is it "one touch screen"
or
"one touch setup", or am I totally out on the
"big fields" here?
Could be nice to know for a guy who not are too
familiar to Yamaha....

OTS=One Touch Setting.
On the PSR740, 2000, 9000 and 9000pro (and maybe some others I am not familiar with)each style gives you 4 buttons of voices recommended for that style. On the 9K and Pro, you can change the voices to your taste. On the 2000, no need to change them because there are 8 Registration buttons where you can store your favorites. And if those 12 aren't enough, the 2000 lets you store multiple banks of 8. Really a cool feature.

OTS is one touch setting. The PSR2000 has four buttons dedicated to style-appropriate voice changes. The preset styles have preset One Touch Settings for each style. With user styles, you can custom design each one touch setting and save that with the style. The CVP209 styles that I shared with the group all have one touch settings created by Yamaha for each specific style. Even though the PSR2000 has about 30 less voices than the CVP209, the CVP209 styles and OTSs seem to translate well onto the PSR2000. I think that if a style voice or OTS voice doesn't exist on the lower-level keyboard, it defaults to a similar voice.

So it's really fantastic to buy a new keyboard, and then all the sudden receive the freebie of 120 professional styles with custom OTSs. It would take a long time to create OTSs for 120 styles. It would probably be a group project that would never get done.
