I finally got the Yammy P90 piano and I am very happy with it. Not being a MIDI guru, I am having problems setting the P90 as master and Ty as slave. All I want to do is to trigger the styles and chords from P90 and layer some Ty voices to the piano, still controlling Ty's styles and voices from the Ty.

Step 1: I connected the MIDI cable OUT on the P90 and IN on the Ty.

Step 2: I entered the Function 8 on P90 (F8Y) transmit channels and set to 1, as suggested, then F9 (receive channel) and set to "all", as suggested in the manual.

Step 3: Set All parts in the MID assignements on the Ty.

It just does not work!!! Damn! I tried different settings and set ups... NOTHING.

Can anyone tell where I am going wrong. What should I do (the MIDI cable is OK). Anyone experienced same type of MIDI set up?

Try this:
From the MIDI page press Edit

Change the setting for CH.1 to "Keyboard"

Press Exit twice

Just a tought, Both instruments are Yamahas: is there somebody on the forum from Yamaha who can find out a solution for me.

I am disappointed at the support here in Italy. Called Yamaha and the asnwer I got was "It's in the manual". There must be more than that.

I just did it, it works. Only thing I didn't mention is, you have to be actually transmitting on channel 1 for this to work. If you cant transmt on Ch. 1, set the recieve channel of whatever channel you are transmittin to keyboard. it should work. Of course you do have to turn the ACMP and Sync-Start on on the Tyros.

One more thing to make sure of is that your P90 has been switched to say midi in the "host" section on the side of the piano. I also have used the P90 as a controller for the Tyros and as Steve says, you must change the receive midi channel to say "keyboard" on channel 1 rather then "song" which is the default.

IT WORKS GREAT. I am now trying to find a way to save the set up, so that it comes up when switching the Ty on as a default setting.

The only odd thing I found is the I still prefer the TRANSPOSE function on the Ty, and with the above MIDI set up it would be nice to control this from the Ty rather than from the P90.
