Does the Tyros have standard key size or are the keys smaller as on the PSR2000?

The keyboard on the TYROS is exactly the same width as the keyboard on the MOTIF6 and every other 61 note keyboard Yamaha has made since the DX7. I didn't measure the key length, but they all appear the same.

Well ......... I did 'measure' with a piece of paper and the Tyros keys ARE smaller (width) than the SD1 keys, about 0.5 to 1.0 mm.

In my (limited ?) view, for example the SD1 has the standardized piano/organ key-width of 22.4 mm.
I dislike the Tyros key-feel, 80% caused by the non-standard size. The other 20% caused by a non-weighted feel and limited vertical key-movement. (like accordeon-keys)

Realize this is my PERSONAL opinion, others might have a totally different view D:

I did some measuring and some research.
Yamaha Pianos (acoustic and digital including all 88 note weighted actions) are 165mm to the octave.
Yamaha Organs (antique and comtemporary) are 160mm to the octave.
Yamaha Synthesizer, portable keyboards etc are all 160mm to the octave.
The Tyros keyboard is 160mm to the octave.
The PSR2000 keyboard is 160mm to the octave.
The DX7 keyboard is 160mm to the octave.
This is full size! If some other manufacturer wants to make their keys bigger, that's fine.

I think only in Coevorden everything expands
a little bit. Dutch people are all very tall.
Only Ketron takes this into his account.

165 mm per octave is normal (Piano, Hammond, pipeorgans, Roland, solton, Korg, Wersi etc)
Why does Yamaha not match this standard for their electronic instruments ?
Keyboardists have a 'built-in' octave-distance in their hands....... I do not like re-adjustment while playing a Yammy.

A 5 mm shorter octave, so each key .7 mm smaller.
If Yamaha likes this smaller keys, Ok but Tonkan did not get a correct answer. That's my point.

I cannot agree with any of your statements. Not all dutchies are very tall, in fact my fingers are short. Why does 'everything' expand in Coevorden ? Facts are facts.
It is NOT only Ketron that uses standards, but almost every brand does.
Perhaps I need more explaination to understand your message ?

I have mentioned this before but again:
Yamaha is the only one in "keyboardland" that uses smaller keys, at least that I know of. For me it is one of the reasons not to buy yamaha. I just can't get used to it.

I remember we all had this same discussion two years ago. And also last year. I remember everyone measuring their keyboards and reporting back. And there were differences. I did NOT realize that only Yamaha had the smaller keys. Some of the players here said they never noticed the difference from one keyboard to the next.

The ever slightly smaller key width is barely noticeable to me (especially compared to the difference between weighted -synth action keys) when switching back and forth between the Tyros and the full sized heavy weighted action keys on my Steinway B Grand piano. Maybe it's because I've had to learn to quickly adjust to many differnent piano/keyboards over the years as a gigging musician, so Yamaha's imperceivably smaller keys are the least of my concerns. I find it very easy and really enjoy playing on PSR Yamaha keyboards, especially the Tyros. - Scott

Generalmusic, with their SK 76 keyboard, for some reason decided to have shorter keys, not narrower, but actually shorter than standard size keys. In the beginning, I never really knew the reason, but everytime I played certain chords, especially fuller ones, that require many black keys to be pressed, I felt as if my fingers were always hitting the panel behind the keys. After some careful comparison, I realized the difference. It really didn't help in improving my impression of Generalmusic.

The small size difference never bothered me at all when playing the PSR2000 and 740. What I don't care for ( although I too can adjust if need be ) is the soft feel of those keyboards. The Motif has a much better feel ( for me ) and I don't notice the difference at all in key size when going back and forth from the PA80.

I agree about the 'soft keyboard feel' on the PSR2000 and 740. The Tyros keyboard feel (imo) feels similar to the Motif) and it's one of MANY reasons I'm VERY HAPPY I upgraded to the Tyros.

Dutchie here indeed, although living in the US for the past five years. And yes again, tall too, about 6.3. Maybe thats why we dutchies have problems with those keys.
