I want to insert a 2/4 variation in a 4/4 style - either in a fill, break, or intro. How can I do this?

Hi

Try my "Style Half Bar Fill Creator" software at http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/filledit/index.htm

Anybody ever tried asking for this feature to simply be added to the OS, or is that futility with Yamaha?

This seems such a basic feature, and must make a lot of country music (especially) quite a pain to do. Plus, of course, you re-write the style to have half-bar fills, and if they are only used on certain verses or choruses and NOT on others (a quite common C&W trick) you are STILL in trouble.

Some other makers have it, and even can assign it to a button or footswitch, so you can turn it on and off during the song.

Come on, Yamaha-ers... Tell them what you want. It MIGHT happen!

Diki, I couldn't agree with you more. There should be a start over switch on the keyboard so you can seamlessly begin a variation at any point during a style. Then you can cut in at the beginning of the second, third, or fourth measure for a 2/4, 3/4, 5/4, or 7/4 verse.

There are songs that I don't do - like "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," because it's too much of a pain.

Yamaha, are you listening?

The old PSR 5700 had that "start over" button..which was great for 1/2 measures.
Why they stopped including it on the newer boards beats me.

I too would like to see this feature.

I have mentioned this many times to Yamaha, but to no avail, and eventually had to have Michael Bedesem make me a program to convert styles to half bar capability.

A button for "half bar" would be so much easier.

A "swing" button or dial would be cool as well.

I am not so much a fan of the 'reset' button, because most makers that DO implement it make it so that it restarts the bar IMMEDIATELY you press it, so your timing has to be extremely precise. But it sure comes in handy for those occasional 3/4 bars in a 4/4 piece that don't involve a fill. I just wish there was some way to tie it to the timing of the arranger, at least in whole beat increments. Something like the way the multi-pads work on Korg's (they seem to run in the background, so it doesn't matter when you kick them in, they still sync up).

But this is a somewhat different feature to the 'Half-Bar Fill-in' button that makes country fills a LOT easier...

Oh, and a big 'YES!' to the return of the 'swing' button, at least for simple 8-beat and 16-beat patterns...

You can squeeze a LOT of mileage out of just one style using that...
