Hello,

I have a spirit M8 mixer with a spdif output.
I have also a EMU 0404 soundcard with spdif input.
Can I use the output of my mixer direct in the input of the soundcard to play and to record with a single coaxial cable or do I need something else?
I have heard about synchronisation with an external device.
Can you explain me what is that?

Thanks
STAM

I couldn't find the specifications on the M-8, but if it's a stereo output mixer, a single coax cable will not work. Most mixers have stereo outputs and most sound cards have stereo inputs, therefore they require a cable that has a 3.5 mm (1/8-inch) stereo male connector/cable to the sound card that splits into two 14-inch or RCA mono male plugs at the other end in order to record in stereo.

Gary,
the mixer output is stéréo on a single rca spdif connecteur and the input is stéréo on a single rca spdif connector so I don't worry about the stereo image.
The question was about the faisability to transfer audio data digitally from the mixer to the soundcard without any other device than the cable

Thank you
Stam

Yes, all you need is to get yourself a GOOD quality audio coax cable and then start recording. I got my S/Dif cable at Fry's Electronic Store.
