Dear pros and music masters (or queens),

I was just wondering who (and what song) do you think can claim the list of some of the greatest 'make out' song of all times?

I'm thinking:
1. Marvin Gaye
2. Earth Wind and Fire
3. Sade

Can't think of anymore. I'm sure some of our savvy people here like Uncle Dave, Don, etc can help out

For me and the misses, it had to be Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon. Just thinking about that brings a smile to my face.

Thanks for conjuring up that memory!

Think Country--Joe Stamply's "Do You Ever Fool Around?"
Seriously, "Unchained Melody" has to be up there. How about that song from "Ten" with Bo Derrick.

My wife would say "When A Man Loves A Woman". It didn't hurt that I played that song several times with the guy that made it famous.

One I think many people would choose is by Arron Neville. Tell It Like It Is.

I'm not familiar with the song "Tell It Like It Is". Who did it and should I put it in the song list?

Beachbum you can have Sade. I'll take Karen Carpenter anyday. She had the smoothest and creamiest voice of any female singer ever.

How 'bout "Love Won't Let Me Wait" by Major Harris or "Je t'Aime" by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg. Never did understand the actual lyrics of that one, but it was all the little noises and stuff.

Tom, you're in for a treat. Look up the song ubder the Nevil Brothers (60s - YOUR era)or you can find a version by Annie & Nancy Wilson (Heart)from the 70s as well. Both capture the romance and passion that the lyric puts out. It's a heart wrenching, yet simple melody with a great opportunity to harmonize the hook. You'll love it.

I'm with you on THAT one. Karen is second in my list only to Ella. Ella is the quintiscential singer for me.Flawless technique, tastful phrasing and beautiful tone. What a loss for both of them.
My "desert Island" CD collection HAS to have:

Les Miz - soundtrack
Carpenters - Christmas album
Ella's Harold Arlen collection

I can eat cocanuts and get by with all the other misfortune if I can have those tunes !

Oh,
Yeah- age definitely a factor in determining this.

I propose Space Odyssey 2001 and Chariots of Fire though.

Although Bolero is nice also

Have I told You lately by van Morisson is awesome too.

"A Certain Sadness" By Astrud Gilberto is best of all time.

Anybody knows the name of Sergio Mendez's female vocalist who sang "The Trouble With Hello"? She got a very sweet sexy voice too and so as Astrud.

When I was young I didn't need any particular song to"make out",but for the masses, I always liked Lenny Welsh,"Since I fell for you"..and for olden days "Stairway to the Stars "...

"My One And Only Love."
I have this with John Coltrane playing this (without too many notes Dave) from the 60's I think. His approach intonation technique and feeling on this tune makes my hair stand up. Johnny Hartmann is the vocalist.

But, some folks today are going to think Rod Stewart invented this tune and it was a great tune when Rod Stewart was a pup.

It reminds me of when I was 14 years old and trying to tell my Dad that Fats Domino had a brand new tune called "Blueberry Hill." My Dad laughed and told me Hank Williams or Hank Snow did that tune in the 30's or 40's.

My kid still thinks that group some 10 years ago invented "I can't help falling in love with you, and I know Elvis did it in the 50's or 60's and probably someone did it in the 30's or 40's. The good tunes just keep rolling around.

Back to Rod Stewart for all the pups here. All the tunes on some of his newest albums were done by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat Cole and humpteen others in the 20's 30's and 40's.

I still get embarassed when remembering that statement to my Dad. I was trying to make him hipper. Ha!

Don Williams: "We Got a Good Fire Goin"

There's a storm rollin' over the hill
And the willow trees are blowin'
I'm standin' here starin' out the window
Safe and warm
I feel her put her arms around me
And its a good feelin' I'm knowin'
Oh, I've got a good woman and we've got a good fire goin'

We've got a feast on the supper table
Bread for breakin'
A blessing from the Lord for makin' me such a fortunate man
The light of my life in the candle
Her face a glowin'
Oh, I've got a good woman and we've got a good fire goin'

CHORUS:
So let it rain
(let the rain fall down)
Let it rain
It won't do nothin' but kindle a never ending flame
Let it rain
(let the rain fall down)
Let it rain til mornin'
Oh, I've got a good woman and we've got a good fire goin'

Now there's a hard rain fallin' on the roof
Coffee comin' from the kitchen
I'm lyin' here listenin' to the ceiling on the living room floor
I feel her lay down beside me
My love is overflowin'
Oh, I've got a good woman and we've got a good fire goin'

Oh, I've got a good woman and we've got a good fire goin'

Agreed! Although everytime I see that seen, I can't help but think of the spoof they did in Naked Gun 2 1/2. Remember the trailer for that one, Leslie Nielsen and Priscilla Presley making out while the pottery wheel goes beserk.

On a more serious note, I was inspired by this thread this past weekend. Saturday night, the kids had a sleep-over, so it turned into "Date" night. An early movie (The Last Samari...great movie), supper, then back home for some quiet time. I decided to dim the lights and play some mood music. Hmmm....What to play? I've used Sade's Promise CD before, that works well. No...Something different. Ah, there it is, Diana Krall's "The Look Of Love".

Hubba hubba!
