In my band, I have DJ who uses the SP-808 (I think with the scsi port) with the 100MB Zip drive. He bought it as a liquidation item last summer when they started coming out with the red SP-808EX.

Anyway, I know that zip disks have to be formatted for use in the SP-808 and Roland saves the data in it's own proprietary format.

My question is this:

Is there a program, hack, expansion or other method that can be used to load audio data from a PC onto a Roland formatted Zip Disk and then have it read from the 808? Like can I somehow render Sound Forge, Wav's or other PC audio formats down to a readable file by the 808, or will the disk even be readable by the PC once it's been formatted for the Roland specific format? Or can I somehow use the scsi to "upload" samples from PC to the 808?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

If the SP-808 supports the .wav-format, you should be able to transfer from the PC, through SCSI. Are you sure it doesn't read PC-formatted zips?

I'm back. Thanks for the Star wars relief! Seriously tho, my DJ doesn't seem to think the PC will read a zip once it's been formatted for the 808 and vice versa. Which makes moving the files between the two kinda difficult right? I've heard there's a scsi card upgrade, but is that for the regular 808 or is that for the EX? I just want to create beats on the PC and output them as any file possible that will allow them to be used on the 808... Any suggestions?
